It has been a long few weeks.

I can’t wait to feel normal again. Ever since I had my new knee installed sleep has probably been my biggest issue or should I say the lack there of. I’ve been trying to stay away from the narcotic pain killer but that has been impossible. I do all right during the day but there is still so much fluid left under my kneecap that it is very uncomfortable to try and sleep that way and I haven’t been sleeping well at all. Physical therapy has been going good. I am ahead of the curve in terms of range of motion which they say is good but I have almost no energy at 17 days out.

We were supposed to play at a local bar next Saturday night and I think I would’ve been OK to do that but my brother was just diagnosed with colorectal cancer a few days before my surgery and his plate is full. They are still in the staging and prognosis time of diagnosis But it appears he is a good candidate to be cured and make a full recovery. The only issue they are concerned with right now is a small mass on his liver that has not grown in 18 months but at the moment they are not sure if it is related to his colorectal cancer diagnosis. He has good looking blood work and a good looking MRI. He should be having the cancer removed by the end of the month.

Mandy has been doing really good holding down the fort around here even though it has been a lot of work trying to take care of me the house and go to her full-time job.

We booked flights to Oahu for mid March. My daughter is a nurse on the cardiac ward of Queens Hospital. My son-in-law is in the army and has been stationed there for the last three years. We are going to go spend a week on the island and they are going to put us up at their home in Mililani for four of those days. We have not decided where we are going to spend the other four days. We are not exactly flush with money these days since my disability retirement. We had a free flight so airfare was reasonable..
I am looking forward to getting out of the wet cold soggy Pacific Northwest for a little while and soaking up some much needed sunlight. We have basically been housebound since before Christmas and the walls are starting to close in around me. The first week of December I blew the engine on my snowmobile so it has been a pretty boring winter so far.

I am back on my Zytiga after a two week break for surgery. I think I’m going to take a nap

Praying for you and your brother man. Knowing the great healer that we know has your back. Hang in there brother, Hoping the fluid on the knee problem subsides. I cannot imagine that pain. Reading that makes me not want to complain about my occasion knee stabbing pains as I get older. Yours sound like times ten times more.

As far as that snowmobile goes, just be thankful you did not get run over by it, like what the snow plow did to Jeremy Remy(what a close call)

Keep taking that miracle drug, the big Z, and being undetectable, you are still a few months ahead of me on that, and I am sure you will be keeping it that way.

Hello Todd. I'll just give you a little encouragement on the knee replacement. My wife has had two of them that were both absolutely necessary. Her recovery from both has been remarkable. I'm convinced the key was her rehab which she took very seriously. She started playing pain free tennis within 2 months of each replacement and continues to do so now at age 75. Plus long walks each day. Hoping for the same for you....well, the knee replacement won't turn you into a tennis player but you know what I mean!

Ah yes, pickleball. It's great to play in South Florida in the wintertime. Time to take it up & test the new knee. Glad you're making progress.

Hey Todd! Sorry to hear the recovery is a little rough. The very fact they can replace an entire knee is a little mind-blowing. Here's hoping it continues to improve, and certainly that it does so in time for the Hawaii trip!
