Zytiga users. How long?

I started ZYTIGA (now the generic version - ABIRATERONE ACETATE) at the beginning of my new school year in 2015.

It has now carried me through seven full school years and beyond.

I give thanks, every single day ...

Wanting to track my progress, since I was the first fellow at my clinic to start ZYTIGA, I started saving the empty bottles at the end of each month ...

There's 87 bottles lined up on that shelf, nowadays ... and bottle #88 is arriving later this week.

Every day ... an "attitude of GRATITUDE" ... and I give humble thanks for this medication that continues to help me maintain my health goals !

I went 54 months and took a break as of June 3rd this year. Still <0.01 and very thankful.

You are my hero and I hope my role model. I am just closing in on the end of my first year on Zytiga. My MO at Dana-Farber tells me given my history he expects it to work a long time for me. My other MO at the VA hospital (who fills my prescription) says it sometimes works for a year or more. My choice is to listen to you and my MO at D-F.

Todd, we may not all have your super powers, but you show us what can be done!

Old Sailor. You, I, and cyclone should start a club

Now this is getting into the spirit of things!

A Budweiser-sponsored Youtube video below in which a country music band in a bar plays and sings the ditty ("99 bottles of beer ...") 99 consecutive times (video goes on like this for 24 min., 37 sec.), as the bartender takes a bottle down from shelves behind the bar, stocked with, yes, 99 bottles of beer, each time the band sings a verse. There is even a counter in the lower left of the screen that keeps track of the declining beer count.

Can't imagine anyone would want to watch the entire video, just watch a little bit at first, and then fast-forward to the end to see the probably-by-then exhausted bandleader wrap it all up.

And as we listen to it, let's imagine we hear "Zytiga" being sung instead of "beer!"

I just remember the excitement that was in the air, when ZYTIGA was introduced ...

I remember my oncologist stating he was quietly optimistic that ZYTIGA could help me.

He had me take the tablets for 3 weeks, and asked me to come in for a PSA test.

I was his first patient to try ZYTIGA.

I remember that moment when the lab results came in and my PSA had dropped ...

I was speechless and my doctor's eyes lit up!

It was a moment I will never forget.

I remember thinking, "There's LIGHTNING in that medicine bottle!"

I'm so thankful that ZYTIGA remains an important weapon in the arsenal & now its impact is better known, understood, documented, and proven by time.

And now we have comrades trying PLUVICTO!

Over New Year's Eve, I had a reflective moment, as I started jotting down events on my new calendar for the year ahead ...

It struck me that I was marking my tenth New Year's since diagnosis in 2013.

I sat down and tallied them up, just to be truly SURE!

I suddenly thought of the progression of treatments that have evolved since then.

New medications, refined methods of radiation, enhanced scans, specially-blended chemotherapy "cocktails" ... to name just a few.

Remember when XTANDI and ZYTIGA were the "new kids on the block" and the excitement their roll-out generated?!!

I thought of a new fellow, just getting "the news" at his doctor's office today ... and how HIS doctor would be able to describe a wider & brighter treatment landscape ...

I also thought of how we have all worked together HERE --- sharing those first-hand treatment experiences & documenting our experiences with newer treatments and medications.

I thought of how doctors today can share over a decade's worth of experiences with medications like XTANDI and ZYTIGA and over two decades' worth of experiences with TAXOTERE chemotherapy infusions.

I then thought of our members here who are now sharing their latest experiences with PLUVICTO (Lutetium-177) treatments.

Ever since May 2022. Along with Lupron chaser

My other half has been on Zytiga since June 2012.

He did stop taking prednisone after about 6 months of starting.

I may have jinxed myself by posting. Hope not.

I have been in the advanced (stage 4) prostate cancer game for almost 17 years now. I failed Lupron and became castrate resistant in 2011. Inter receiving Provenge in 2012, I started Zytiga in the fall of 2013. As far as I know, Zytiga is still secondary treatment.
