52 YR OLD MY PSA LEVEL WAS AROUND 2700 I RETESTED 3 DAY LATER WENT UP 100 TO 2800 MY GLEASON IS 9 AND GRADE 5 PMSA PET/SCAN SHOWS IT SPREAD TO LY NODES AND L5 VERTEBRA I HAVE YET TO START ANY TREATMENT HAS ANYBODY HAD PSA THAT HIGH AND WHAT WAS OUT COME I CANT HELP BUT THINK THIS IS NOT GOING TO TURN OUT GOOD FOR ME

To answer your question, there is a gentleman on here who was in your shoes over 10 years ago, and he's still kicking well. So, yes, it can be done, even in as serious a situation as you are in. Where are you located? Where are you getting treated?

It is quite uncommon for metastatic prostate cancer to not respond to hormonal treatment and there are other big guns the docs have. Keep us posted and let us know how you and your PSA are doing after you begin treatment.

Sorry about your diagnosis. That sucks…. Been there! June 6th will be 17 years. My PSA was over 3200. Widespread Mets. Bones lungs lymph nodes. I am sure you are freakin! Take a deep breath. It’s a marathon and some of it sucks ain’t gonna lie but there are blessings if you seek them. I am only G-7…. Not quite as aggressive but still bad. Hang in there man. You can still live into your 70’s but you gotta get your mind right. Things are gonna change no doubt but you got this. Your gonna be on hormones probably for the rest of your life and I see some chemo in your future as well. Side affects can be a drag. Stay active… go for walks… ride a bike… whatever you do just do it. It helps with side effects. Todd

I am not going to sugar coat your condition. You are stage 4 and you need the best care you can muster. If your cancer responds well to the current treatments available, you may see a very durable remission and live a long time. Longer survival means getting the new treatments as they become available. That involves getting top oncologists that specialize in advanced prostate cancer who will provide treatments in the correct sequence for your cancer.

Your geographic location, insurance and personal financial situation may in part limit your decision making. Getting convenient care and least cost care from local doctors/hospitals in most situations will fall short of the best care.

The best doctors are going to be associated with the cancer centers of excellence like Mayo, Cleveland, John Hopkins, ect. If you can provide your geographic location, the members on this site can provide suggestions.

Do a YouTube search for Dr. Kwon DYI Combat manual prostate cancer. It’s a 3 videos.

Jay, tough diagnosis for sure. I'm not gonna add anything to the above, as I'm not qualified, other than to say, welcome to the forum. Take Duck2's comment above about getting a top doc at a cancer center of excellence seriously. It will give you the best shot at getting advanced treatments and staying on top of newer treatments

I'm really glad Todd chimed in on this, focus on his situation, to help you stay positive. The docs have a lot in their arsenal to help you. Stay strong.

I LIVE IN MANTECA, CA about 60 MILES SOUTH OF SACRAMENTO MY WIFE WORKS FOR AMAZON AND PUT ME ON HER INSURANCE KAISER PERMANENTE BACK IN OCTOBER .I DID MY LAB FOR DIABETES I DID COLON STOOL TEST TOO IT CAME BACK POSITIVE RIGHT BEFORE I SWITCHED TO KAISER I DID COLONGAURD TEST I JUST FOUND OUT IT CAME BACK POSITIVE MY OTHER DOCTOR NEVER TOLD ME MY RESULTS .I LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS TAKEN THERE TIME TO REPLY MY POST IN THE NEXT DAY OR TWO I POST A MORE DETAILS ON WHATS GOING

This is the treatment plan my doctor came up with based on PEACE-1 trial. Taxotere with Abiraterone and prednisone based on given significant volume and aggressiveness of his cancer. I had my first round of chmo on 3/6/23 so far so good still able to go to work (capenter) every day thank you for taking time to check up on me 03/06/23 Zytra 250 mg 4 tablets daily 02/17/23: Casodex 50 mg QD x 21 days
02/23/23: Lupron 45 mg Q6M to be done
03/2023: Taxotere + Abiraterone + Prednisone planned

It's great to hear your treatments have already begun!

The multi-tiered treatment approach is what was needed in my case, too ~ ADT shots, chemotherapy infusions with TAXOTERE (six treatments given 3 weeks apart), and then ZYTIGA (now the generic version ~ Abiraterone Acetate).

Eventually, I pursued radiation treatments, too.

One thing I have learned, in retrospect ~ my TOUGHEST treatments have paid the most dividends. Hang on to that thought on a tough treatment day ...

We're here to RALLY AROUND YOU, as your treatments continue.

This multi-layered treatment plan that you have embarked upon is attacking those renegade cancer cells, as we speak!

That's a powerful image I kept in my mind, as I went through treatments.

Good luck on your treatments. You're going through much the same protocol as many brothers here have done, with great results. If you ever need a second MO opinion, I highly recommend Prostate Oncology Specialists in Marina Del Rey, CA. Dr. Lam and Dr. Scholtz. Best of luck.

Welcome. This group of people here have been a god send.
There's answers to just about every question. Stay active and live your life. Eat healthy and get exercise. I'm sure your line of work keeps you active as well.
As you live in California, I bet that the doctor's are top notch.

did my second round of chemo today having some side affects started losing my hair probably going shave my head this week sometime losing my hair not a big deal to me i be in and out of the shower in no time soap and a towel all i need mouth sores i got are not cool so doctor gave me some magic mouth wash much better now and no hot flashes yet i am in way better frame of mind now than i was with my first post it's a hard pill to swallow when you find out you have advance prostate cancer stage 4 so i stopped asking WHY and excepted that i have cancer there nothing i can do to change whats happen but there is something i can do now and that is to fight back i cant thank you guys enough for all positive things said it really makes you feel your not alone in this fight did labs before my second round of chemo my psa level down to 12.1 stay strong my brothers

That is pretty quick turnaround in mental state and PSA, big improvement and good attitude. I seriously doubt that any man is not freaked out when advised they may have or do have prostate cancer. The faster one gets on with a treatment plan and has some success goes a long way to resetting the brain for the long haul. Hope you continue to do well.

That is a jaw-dropping drop in PSA, following your TAXOTERE chemotherapy infusions!

Looking back, my toughest treatments ~ including chemotherapy ~ have paid the greatest dividends, over time.

I kept in mind that chemotherapy has the ability to kill stubborn & resistant cancer cells. Hang onto that thought!

I'm so thankful to read how your PSA levels have truly plummeted!

Through it all, I just focused on the current day.

I kept working full-time as a teacher, throughout my treatments, but needed evenings and weekends to rest and relax and rebound.
