I read a series in the NYT that discusses a person's medical condition. These people have issues that may take months to diagnose. They go from one specialist to another without any relief. Finally a doctor will have an idea about what the treatment should entail. An AI can sift through all the symptoms and treatments in just a few seconds. I'll listen to a synopsis of a hundred articles on my symptoms as fast or faster than a primary care doctor.
That sounds like experiences my wife and I have both had with the medical system. For her back issue, she did the big tour and saw numerous providers in a variety of departments, all whom seemed to see something different on the MRI of her back. I wondered if this was a scam to increase the billing they could do. For me, I had what turned out to be a bulging disc and it put pressure on a nerve with pain radiating down my leg. The first provider I saw felt the thigh on that leg and exclaimed that my muscles were in total spasm. Huh? Yes, total spasm. See how hard that muscle is? You need muscle relaxers. No, I’m a distance runner and what you are feeling is an actual muscle and, you know what, the unaffected leg feels the same way. Whew……let me talk to the computer.
