If you go the supplement route, the best plan is N. Since we lost F a couple of years ago, G is now the default for guaranteed issue and can expect to have the highest rate of future premium increases. Both G and N have you pay the yearly B deductible and the N charges a $20 copay on some, but not all doctors visits. In the last year we have spent less than $100 on copays but we saved more than $1,200 in premium using N versus G.
.
Jack, question…. Another difference between N and G , which wasn’t mentioned, is that with plan N you can be subject to excess charges. I’m actually about
to start shopping for a supplement as our retiree coverage (wife) is about
to move everyone from traditional Medicare + (paid for) supplement to a group Med Advantage plan. I’m going to opt out, and pay out of pocket for my own supplement.
The excess charge is a sticking point for me. Do you consider that a non issue? Very interested on your take on this. I feel that while right now it wouldn’t affect me as all my Drs accept Medicare rates as full payment, what if I got seriously I’ll and wanted the best surgeon available and they accepted Medicare assignment but not Medicare rates?
