I had an extremely painful prostate biopsy last week- I really think it should be done under a general, the local barely helped and if they insist on a local they MUST insist people take something strong like co codamol if not straight codeine or even a bag of cocaine 30 mins before to completely take the edge off the humiliating and outrageously painful biopsy.
The current level of pain relief is simply NOT enough (at least for me)
The Local needles stung like a thousand hornets, I felt like passing out.
The clicking sound she explained would happen taking the sample sounded more like a shotgun going off inside me and made me jump, yelling impolite expletives at all present in the room too !
I am glad I refused student nurse oversight of my humiliating / painful expletives.
Had to have paracetamol for 5 days after as felt like I had ridden the Tour de France each day.
SO , rant over, my question is this:
Is it better to avoid ejaculations post biopsy to give it time to start to heal fully - I cannot find a definitive answer on this anywhere. (as forcing/pumping through seminal fluid from the prostate might increase the longevity of the healing process and possibly lead to inflammation)
OR is it better to clear as much stuff out of the prostate as fast as possible with eg 2 ejaculations per day?
The solid blobs of blood ejaculated out are simply revolting and it then weeps blood for the next 10 mins.
I have rung NHS 111 hoping to get an answer but they don't have any guidance which surprised me.
They suggested I ring my GP , I just feel they should be giving out more USEFUL guidance on the notes they give before (along with guidance to take copious strong painkillers) and after the procedure !

zen - I tend to agree, my first two samples hurt like heck then it was not too bad after that. However, the first two samples conditioned me to freeze up after each click. That stuff has to be more shocking when one is young.

I do not recall any precautions a week after a biopsy. I took the approach that getting the bloody stuff out was a good idea but it was not red blood after a week or so but reddish brown junk in amazing amounts. I figured it was still healing so only once per day was plenty and then I would wait a couple of days to see if that made a difference which it did not. Mine went on 6-8 weeks but doctor said that is not abnormal.

Blood is nasty in that one drop in a toilet looks like your rear end exploded. I suspect it can take a long time to get the last traces out of the prostate and it looks worse than it is. The prostate does not get easily flushed out like the GI tract so it just takes time. No idea why some men get over it quicker, maybe 4 times per day? Ha Ha

Zen, again welcome. Your experience with your biopsy is a bit different than most but not totally unusual. Most folks describe the experience as "uncomfortable" but others do experience the pain you had. I was lucky; my urologist didn't believe in giving his patients unnecessary paid so I had IV anesthesia. I slept like a baby and never knew what was hitting me.

Like everyone else though, I experienced the bloody aftermath that you are seeing. This situation may last a few weeks. I don't recall any info from my doc re not helping it along.

As important, please let us know the results of the biopsy. Hopefully it will be negative and your stay here will be short. If not, we are here to help you; please ask any and all questions.

As I recall--it's been 8+ years--there were no recommendations about sex after biopsy except the suggestion to use a condom because of how nasty things look. What I recall is that the evening of the biopsy I felt the urge to pee--and nothing came out. I was about ready to ask my wife to take me to the ER for a catheter when I finally passed a big clot.

As others said, it took a few weeks to work out all the nasty. By then, I had other things on my mind--mostly, what was I going to do about my diagnosis.

They used propofol on me...I didn't get the 'after euphoria' that some folks do though, just pain when I woke up. Having a video camera run up my dick tore things up pretty badly so I bled for a few days to help balance the pain from the needles into my prostate. Was kinda weird putting a maxi-pad in my underwear to contain the bleeding too. I prescribed myself Capt Morgan and cannabis for the pain.

The RARP + leuprolide chemo + radiation ended my sex life permanently, but I have dealt with that and have other things to concern myself with. smile
