Sorry this happens to you John, but it is temporary and somewhat inevitable, as there are foreign objects in your body, and there are people who have unfortunately stashed explosives in their underwear.
I flew back from MN to CA after my RALP, 7 days after surgery & 2 days after catheter came out. Of course I was wearing padded undies as things weren't fully operational down there.
I told the TSA dude before I stepped into the machine: "Hey I'm a week post-op and have medical situation down here."
After the scan & the red rectangle, I still got the back of a dude's hand gently up my crotch as he made sure I wasn't packing any C4 / stick of dynamite / grenade.
No big thing. I don't think anyone else around even noticed, as it's a routine secondary that happens all the time.
But yes, a bit of medical-records print-out or letter from MD will speed things up, but you probably will still get the back-of-dude's-hand.
In my experience the grumpier & more in a hurry you are, the slower your resulting search will go.
