One of the heartfelt, proper functions of this forum is to offer sincere condolences from time to time to those who have posted about
their loss of a loved one to this illness.
May I offer you my own, and truly hope that you will come to find consolation in the memory of what was surely the wonderful time that you had with Jim.
Your mention of his tattoo, "Numquam fractum (Never broken)," was intriguing. I checked, and found out that it is the motto of the U.S. Army's 7th Field Artillery Regiment, a unit that served with distinction in both the world wars and in Vietnam:

But even if he didn't, and he chose "Numquam fractum" simply because of the power of its message, it still shows the positive, courageous attitude that he had, and that he was proud to show with a tattoo.
Sincere condolences to you, and best wishes for you and your loved ones.
