OT: Covid alive and still going this Summer.

He can be quite condescending and cocky with his beliefs. He was here long before Covid. He should be a bit smarter now and easier to work with in the future.

Recently friends went on a cruise to Jamaica and while there both caught Covid. Both well vaxed. Neither were very sick, but sure was an inconvenience.

I have friends who did a NY - Canada cruise, both came back with Covid. He had a bit of a rough time , has underlying conditions, but is ok, thankfully.
Spoke with a friend today in Florida, who tells me that he is seeing and hearing of a lot of people getting infected.

It's back for sure, so far up but still at low levels. So the question is where does this peak? No need for getting nuts over this right now, but worth being vigilant. Let's hope it peters out soon.

So I have been testing daily for 8 days now.

I continue to test positive on a home/rapid test even 4 days after finishing Paxlovid

I have no symptoms. No fever. No coughing. Not even a sniffle.

I am a sample of 1, but thought it was interesting.

Another new strain (EG.5, also called Eric) is working and responsible for about 17% of new infections last week. It appears to be causing only mild symptoms.

Wife came down with a severe case from a co worker who went into work sick.
That was about 2 weeks ago, sure enough it hit me yesterday. Feeling awful since with 101 fever. I think it’s a surge as they don’t count all the people who self test. Doesn’t everyone self test?
As usual not getting the full story,
She was remote until recently then 1 day a week, now 2. There is absolutely no reason she needs to be in the office.

Fauntleroy, so sorry to hear about you and your wife both getting it. That seems to be a common occurrence. Hopefully both of you will recover quickly. My best to you both.

Cyclone, I too, have seen more masks out and about. Not as much as I would hope, but more.
On my doctors visit yesterday, my cardiologist was not wearing a mask, about half of his staff was. And very few patients were, only me and two or three others out of about 15 in the waiting room. If anything I would think thats the one place where masks should be worn - a doctors office.
A woman sitting about 8 feet away from me was coughing terribly, and wearing her mask on her chin. Go figure

The CDC used to have a superb tracking system for all diseases and issued updates in their Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Tracking seems to have gotten worse, especially now that Covid has been removed from emergency status.

I use the same mindset of defensive driving when it comes to protecting myself against Covid.

Stephan, Las Vegas still lingers in our house. My wife had severe rebound 2 days after testing negative and finishing Paxlovid. All of her symptoms returned. Including a low grade fever. I first tested positive 14 days ago on August 2nd and my wife was positive on the third. As of today she is still has a severe cough, no taste or smell, brain fog and has sinus drainage. She has tried everything over the counter to stop the cough, but only prescription codeine stops it. I still have a cough and sore throat, but it is manageable. Both my wife and I taught children for over thirty years, she elementary and myself middle school. We pretty much caught every cold and flu known to man. This is no common cold or flu. The symptoms are certainly the same, but we always cleared those symptoms in a matter of days or at most a week. Not certain how Paxlovid helped or hindered our recovery. My guess is that both of our immune systems have gotten weaker with age, also with her breast cancer and my PC. We are both fully vaccinated which always helped with the yearly flu, but Covid is really good at mutating very quickly which requires quicker changes in the vaccine.
I can see now that those with strong immune systems are able to feel like they just had a small case of the flu or cold and where some think and say it is nothing to fear. IMO, that thinking and lack of vaccines cost many lives in the beginning and may sadly cost more going forward.
I am sorry your symptoms came back, but glad you are over the hump with this.

My thoughts and prayers are with the millions that have lost family members to this disease.

I was bummed to hear you guys are still dealing with this at all, and doubly concerned it is in a big way. I hope today is better than yesterday, and tomorrow is better than today.

Oddly Paxlovid’s main claim is that it keeps you out of the hospital. When it was first approved they actually stopped the trial early because something like 90% of the patients in the Paxlovid arm of the pivotal trial “avoided hospitalization”.That is a relatively low bar if you ask me!

Do you have one of those pulse oxygen monitors they place on your finger or a watch that measures oxygen (my wife's Apple Watch measures oxygen). I ask because if your wife’s oxygen drops below 90 that warrants a trip to the dr/hospital. That was the advice I was given by the dr I virtually saw when this experience started.

My last corona booster was in January, so we discussed the importance of getting that next corona booster ...

My new school year begins next Monday with open House Night. It will be interesting to see how corona impacts daily attendance this school year, among staff and students.

Cyclone, very curious, so it sounds like the Dr recommended you get a booster now, rather than wait for the new booster coming out in the fall?

Wife and I got our last booster back in December 2022, and were hoping to wait until Sept-Oct for the new booster to come out. Not sure if it’s the right thing to do. But we aren’t in a classroom like you are.

Stephen, yes we do have a pulse ox monitor due to my slight asthma since childhood. My reading is always lower than hers, but has stayed above 90 throughout this ordeal. This is like a roller coaster ride. One day you feel you are over it then later in the day it returns. All of symptoms seem to quiet down during resting, but working around the house or just talking seems to trigger the coughing episodes. If we get this again, I think the best treatment will be to shackle ourselves to the bed and taping our mouths shut. LOL.

A reminder to all, that my brother, who is a doctor told me in the beginning, is that the bigger the viral load the sicker you will get. Places with little ventilation and one sick person can infect everyone near them. That vaccines do not keep you from getting the virus, but hopefully will keep you from the hospital. The last thing he said in the very beginning is that everyone will more than likely get Covid, so be careful in public when it is peaking. We followed his recommendations right up to the Vegas trip and the snake bit both of us. We both know better living in AZ, the Rattlesnake won’t bite you if you stay away and leave it alone. My cousin told me this, and I just read it for myself!
