Penile prosthesis

I am prepared to undergo this procedure in the next couple of months and would like to ask the members of the Forum for any advice and/or guidance on the subject. I am looking at the 3 piece unit with my Doctor and would really appreciate your comments on everything concerning this procedure as well as your satisfaction and experiences with the results.
I know there are many of us out there who have had to live with this curse and hope to hear all the good and bad associated with the surgery, recovery and anything else that is pertinent. Just want to feel normal again and boost my self esteem to something greater than zero!

I have one and it is ok. I have an AMS 700 CX three piece inflatable penile prosthesis. I'll be glad to answer any questions you have. In the meanwhile I'll share some information that you may not have heard.
It's better to go with a surgeon with lots of experience for several reasons. One is that more experienced surgeons have a lower rate of infections. The device manufacturers have added antibacterial coatings that have helped a lot but infection is still the most common problem with the prostheses. The other reason is that more experienced surgeons put in larger implants. During the procedure the doctor measures to see what size implant will fit. If it is too big there will be trouble. So fledgling doctors tend to play it safe while more experienced ones know what will fit. Studies have found that you get an extra centimeter or so with a high-volume surgeon.
Recovery from the procedure isn't bad, or at least it wasn't for me. The incisions are smaller than you think and the area will be achy but not painful for a few days.
Most guys report that the first few times they pump up their new device are a bit painful but the ache goes away after a few times as the tissues stretch out. The ache can come back if you go too long between inflations. You need to pump the thing up once or twice a week to keep the stretchy bits stretched out.
It's fairly common for guys to initially be disappointed with their new size. They compare themselves to what they remember from when they were 18 and they don't measure up. Protracted ED causes things to shrink and the doctor can only install what will fit (see above) and that can cause a bit of disappointment. But pretty soon guys let go of the idea of being 18 again and compare things to what they had before the implant. Something is better than nothing.
One other thing, at the risk of becoming anatomical, is that there are three erectile chambers in the penis and the implant does two of them. The rods go in the corpus cavernosum on the left and right and they do a good job of giving a natural rigidity when pumped up. But the corpus spongiosum that runs along the bottom isn't inflated. This causes the tip (the glanz) not to become normally engorged. This is a bit disappointing but you get used to it.

If I had it to do over again I'd probably go with the LGX version. (For those of you who don't know what the versions are - the LGX gets a bit longer of you keep pumping after it is inflated, the CX gets bigger around, and the CSX is a smaller version of the CX.)
As for how I chose the CX version, I didn't, actually, choose it. I had an artificial urinary sphincter installed at the same time and the exact model of penile prosthesis got ignored. I sort of expected an LGX but I woke up with a CX - which is fine.
I'm glad to hear your wife is onboard. One thing that happens to men struggling with ED, especially after prostate surgery, is that by the time they find something that works their wives have quietly slipped through menopause and are less excited about the victory over ED than the guy had hoped.

There's plenty of skin, even for guys who are circumcised. What needs to stretch for things to get longer is the tunica albuginea - the sausage casing-like sheath that surrounds the erectile chambers. This can be stretched gradually, over a course of months, a little bit each day. One of the approved treatments for micropenis - a congenital condition that is exactly what it sounds like - is penile traction. Basically, you strap the little guy down on a tiny torturer's rack for several hours every day and crank away a little more each session. I think of the LGX as doing essentially the same thing only from the inside.
Of course, most of the guys who complain about their size here could gain an extra inch by losing twenty pounds. You only get to work with the part that pokes out past the flab.
