Cancer is back. New treatment regiment started

I posted here a few weeks ago when we found out my dads prostate cancer has returned and spread. Initially diagnosed on 2013, he underwent radiation but didn’t respond well to initial hormone therapy so it was stopped. Undetectable until November 2022 when PSA slowly began rising. Did a few scans and found out it spread and is now stage 4. Monitoring some spots in the bones. Pet showed some heat but bone scan showed no issues? So my dad got his first injection of flutamide two weeks ago. Taking it well. Next moth they are going to start him on zytiga as well. I can tell he’s more scared than anything right now. Some trouble urinating but they said the new treatment should help him out. Let’s see how this goes.

It is good to hear from you and thanks for the update on your father. I am not to familiar with flutamide but it appears to be adt. Hopefully with that treatment and Zytiga he will do well. While I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009, it was 2013 before I reached the stage 4 milestone. They started me on Zytiga and then xtandi. It is now 2023 and my psa is zero and I now take lupron, and it has been keeping my psa down to zero for four years now. A number of men on this forum have been taking Zytiga for a long time and are doing very well. Hopefully your father will do as well, but there are more treatments available at this time, then when I reached stage 4.

i am in same boat. prostate cancer 2016 and itsback and spread to my spine. just finished radiation but having a lot of issues with lupron and want off of it. will see drs again in a few weeks. i am 67 orig gleason 7

My father started on flutamide. It’s been two injections now. He’s ready to start zytiga. But he’s having a tuff time. The back pain is severe for the past few days. He’s been prescribed opioids. But nothing seems to be helping. I hope the zytiga works/helps. He’s 83. I hope you tolerate the treatments. He’s older and not handling it well.

Has he asked if they can zap any troublesome mets on his spine? that may quickly relieve his pain
