Bucket list.
We all know what it is, and perhaps we have even thought up one for ourselves, whether actually writing up a list on paper, or keeping one mentally, of those things we would like to get done before we pass.
But for the record:
Bucket list (n.) : a number of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime. This article does a good job of discussing the concept, along with providing some quite interesting facts about
it:
https://parade.com/living/bucket-list-ideas#:~:text=according%20to%20a%20survey%20done%20by%20yougov%2c%20the,-%2035%25%20achieve%20a%20wealth%20goal%20-%2029%25Such as:
"Some of those things could be basic goals and others might be a little more adventuresome or challenging."
"According to a survey done by YouGov, the number one item on most people's bucket lists is "getting healthier." In fact, 41% of adults surveyed came up with that response. Here is the list of the three most common responses within all age groups:
Get healthier/lose weight - 41%
Travel to an exotic location - 35%
Achieve a wealth goal - 29%
There were some slight variations in the top three between Gen Z'ers and Baby Boomers. Gen Z'ers had achieving wealth as number one, followed by getting healthier and then a tie with owning a home and getting married. Baby Boomers, on the other hand, responded with getting healthier as number one, followed by traveling and then changing someone's life for the better."And then the article tells us it has
" ... put together a whopping list of 250 bucket list ideas that you may want to consider for yourself."Not that we would need to look at all 250, but even skimming the list might just give us some new ideas.
Or maybe we are happy with the lists we have already made for ourselves, if that's what we have done.
But it might be fun to look at some additional ideas.
How they are presented (25 ideas in each category) :
Challenges
Thrills and adventures
Hunting or sports
Travel
Other popular
Just fun
Mental
Health
Unique
Creative
I have to admit, some of the ideas presented in these ten categories are intriguing, and maybe worth a moment's pause to at least think about
them. Go to the website and have a look at them.
And on the matter of bucket lists, if it's all right with you to do so, maybe you'd like to post below, and tell us the number one item on your own list, if you have one. Or your top two or three, if you prefer. Whatever you like.
Might make for a fun discussion.
As for me?
Well, for me my top item would be, and I really mean it:
Finding the cure for all cancers, or if not that, at least finding a way to turn them all into chronic conditions, manageable for yearsI know, a bucket list item beyond my own power to ever achieve, but something I would truly love to see happen.
And isn't that enough to make it worth adding to one's bucket list?
