Has anyone had a spermatocelectomy?

Day five: My wife helped take the bandage off yesterday, ouch! I would highly recommend that you shave yourself as they only shaved half the scrotum and the tape got stuck in hair on the crease of the leg too. This is the first day that I feel like I could leave the house if I had to. Even from the first day there was no pain if I just sat or laid down. Moving around had varying degrees of discomfort and soreness depending on what was being done. Just about everything down there is black except the head of the penis. I probably should have used ice early on but didn't. I'm retired but I don't see how you could go back to any kind of work for at least a week.
Another thing I should have done is use a jock strap earlier. Just got one and it really helps but not for long periods of time.
One other thing that I'm concerned about is that my testicle is swelled up about 3 or 4 times normal. Hope this isn't a problem.

Hell I had a spermatocelectomy last Friday 9/9/16. My cist made my left nut about golf ball sized and it took about fifteen years to get that size. Also awhile back it was bifurcated dividing the nut into two growths. It gave me moderate pain constantly after a urologist pressed hard on it to get me to respond...but I was not told to say ouch and figured there must be some reason he was pressing so hard. Though I had had a ultrasound to show it was benign the constant uncomfortableness of it and size were stupid. The surgery took longer than expected and I was told only that several nodules were removed. No useful questions like how long before I could drive or have sex or if there would be adhesion to the scotum wall would occur. The follow up appointment was 3 and 1/2 weeks in the future. I was packed in underwear the underwear they put me in and my pain level was ridiculous. The percocets that were prescribed dealt with getting the pain less fro nine to seven but over the next few days the pain went down seemingly on its own to about a level three or four. I spent as much time as possible on my back with my scrotum elevated as I could...often with ice. There was little swelling but it did seem that there was bruising and purplish discoloration at the bottom of my scrotum. A warm compress about two days in seemed to help some of the congestion to that area. I was given 10 days of pain meds but was off of them the third day as they seemed to have little effect as the pain deceased instead switched to ibuprophens which seemed more effective, and I hoped would not continue to constipate me. My scar seems to be taking longer to heal than I usually do but is an odd shape and has had some drainage. Five days in it is almost painless and having no drainage. Oddly and the only time I have seen such a paltry script my antibiotic was for three days. I posted this because I appreciate the feedback of the other respondents and am now curious when I might consider having sex again not to cause another cyst by starting too soon...of course now the scar and pain make this seem silly..

I just received the notification that you had posted to the thread, hectanola, and I thought I'd tell you my experience. I had a spermatocelectomy May 1, 2014, in Tucson, AZ. I had had the growth in my scrotum for several years and had had a urologist in Las Vegas check it for me. He assured me it was "99% certain to be benign" but said they wouldn't know for certain until it was biopsied.

So, since I was still a couple of years away from going on Medicare, and because I didn't like that doctor very much, I decided to just wait.

When I was in Tucson for the winter 2013-2014, I had a kidney stone that taught me just what pain truly is. I found a urologist who could remove the kidney stone for me and I told him I also had a spermatocele. He checked and said, "You sure do." So, since he was going to have to surgically remove the kidney stone, I told him I'd like to have the spermatocele removed at the same time.

Like most people, I had the one large cyst and several other smaller ones that were removed at the same time. I experienced very little pain following the surgery and was able to comfortably walk and drive starting the next day. There was drainage from the site of the incision for several days, but once that stopped the wound healed very quickly.

I was supplied with a device I could fill with ice myself and keep on the site to discourage inflammation, and that worked to both reduce swelling and to keep any related pain in check. Within a couple of weeks, the only indication that anything had happened in that area was that the area in my scrotum where the "very large egg-sized cyst" (in the doctor's words) had been was quite sensitive to touch. There was never any adverse effect on sexual desire or performance, though we probably waited 4-6 weeks to be sure.

Now, almost 2 1/2 years later, there is no longer any sensitivity there and no indication of new growth(s) forming (new growths are not uncommon). I'm more diligent now about checking myself there for growths and/or sensitivity, as I would prefer to live the rest of my life without any repeated problems or surgery in that particular area of my body.

@nautica6068: Congratulations on getting the surgery over with. I'm the person who posted just above in 2016. This is kind of an update on my surgery, immediate benefits and long-term results.

As I posted above, I waited two years to have the surgery because I was waiting for Medicare to kick in. Had I already been on Medicare, I would not have waited. I suffered no additional pain, but perhaps some additional discomfort, as the spermatocele(s) continued to enlarge over those two years.

I'm surprised you exhibited such severe swelling, but this is undoubtedly an individual thing. Our bodies all react in their own ways to injury and insult. Your swelling will probably go down by the time you return to your doctor for post-surgery follow-up. You didn't mention icing in your post so I'm wondering if any means of icing the area was provided for you.

It's six and a half years now since the surgery and I still have no apparent return of spermatoceles. They could be there, of course, but growing very, very slowly. I have not been to Tucson since leaving there a couple of months after the surgery, so I haven't had an occasion to return to the urologist who performed the surgery. Nor have I had any reason to. But if I do find myself there at some point in the future, I will make an appointment to see him again, if just to receive his agreement that my post-surgery rehab has been without problem and to thank him again for a job well done.

I know this thread is old but I'm hoping someone can chime in. I had an avocado-sized epididymal cyst removed five days ago. I was hoping to forego the hydrocodone but have found it helpful to take the edge off. It seems like I'm worse today than I was two days ago and have a painful, ropey, inflammed "chord" that goes from the top/side of my scrotum up a few inches along where my belly meets my leg. Searching online looks like this is my cremaster muscle that's inflamed and tender. The message relay person at my doctor's office this morning said this is normal. The fact that it's worse and more painful doesn't seem normal but I really don't know.

Hello, I am new to this post, and I know it was posted awile back but I wanted to share my experience. I had several epididymal cysts removed going on about a week and a half, I have a followup appointment this Thursday.
So for me as most, the surgery went well, felt fine after surgery, walked out to the car, after getting home the first two days were mostly easy, but on day 3 I had tons of pain, plus the swelling and colorazation had increased, to become almost a black purple color all over, even though I relaxed stayed mostly elevated and used ice, pain subsided a bit on day 4 through 5, but on around day 7 I had a sharpe pain no where near the insission point, the pain was so strong a couple of days it almost took me to my knees, percocet obviously helped the pain, but once the pill wore off the pain was twice as bad, now on day 9 the pain has gone down about 50% which is still not fun but standable.
The swelling has gone down a bit, but no where near normal, but the color is getting back to normal.
As they say everyone experiences different healling, my experience although has been pretty crazy, where I almost wish I hadn't had the proceedure, but I am sure that eventually I will get back to normal, I will update after my followup appointment.

That's great that it was not bad for you, I had a followup last week, my doctor told me that the surgeon left notes on my chart and he says he has never seen the surgeon do that before, the surfeon said they found several oversized cysts, more than the ultasound showed, and was more complicated than expected.
My doctor said that everything was healing well, that it would just take more time than normal.
Mine was clearly at the other end of the spectrum, the doctor says most as yours was are routine and go well.
