Austin is 70. which is on the old side for surgery. I'd like to know why he opted for surgery over radiation for his prostate treatment. I doubt we will ever know, since reportedly Austin values his privacy.
Setting aside all the issues of RP vs RT, it's no longer the case that 70 is some kind of upper age limit for an RP, especially with today's anesthesia. It really depends on the patient's health. Of course, even for men in generally good health, we do all heal slower as we get older. I'm 76 now and my uro/surgeon said a couple of visits ago--when I asked about
an age limit for a RP--he would still perform the RP for me if I presented today and my imaging were the same as in 2017.
