In the 'olden' days, before PSMA scans, a bone scan was usually done because prostate cancer cells that have escaped are more likely to find a niche to proliferate in bone. The process takes a few hours.
I suggest that you follow that route instead.
And yes, you do have time to consider various options for therapy.
Regarding radiation (see Tudpock's post), HDR brachy is done in one or two steps and the radioactive source is removed right away. It's my understanding that there aren't many radiologists who have a lot of experience with HDR brachy, but I imagine that UCSF would provide that option (or advise you where to go).
