What is this vibration feeling?

I had robotic prostatectomy in 2/11 and EBRT ending in June 2011. In the fall of 2011 I started feeling a vibrating sensation in the prostate area. It lasted a few weeks. Now it started back again about a week ago and feels to be more in the penis. I can describe it as feeling like my iPhone vibrating (on silent) in my front pant pocket but not that strong. But it is so similar to the iPhone that I have pulled the phone out of my pocket numerous times thinking I had an incoming call. It is like an incoming call in that it starts, then stops. There is no pain and I am having no bleeding or swelling that I can see. Has anyone here experienced this sensation? What is causing it?

Oh, I would like to report that I had a strange growth pop up on the side of my nose suddenly. A plastic surgeon removed it and called me to say "NO CANCER". How nice it was to hear those words. I told him I would like to hear the same from the medonc at the cancer center. :-)

Sounds like maybe a muscle spasm to me.

Mine does that too. I asked one of the (countless) docs I've consulted what he thought it was. His guess was "there's just stuff going on down there". My reaction to that was..."good answer...but meaningless".

My prostate is untreated. It's not uncomfortable...hey!...it's doing it a little bit now!

Just strange.

I had stomach surgery a number of years ago and it has left me with a much less than normal ability to belch. As a result I tend to have a bit of air working its way through my gut most of the time. [To those of you you who've met me: sorry.] I think I must have a loop of intestine that is given to whoopie-cushion buzzing in an area near my cellphone because I have a similar problem with phantom buzzes.

So, my list of guesses for what is causing your Willie to buzz:

1) A nervous "tic". We notice them mostly in our faces but they occur in other body parts. Sometimes they can vibrate like you describe.

2) Muscle spasm. Not sure that this isn't the same thing as a tic except with bigger muscles.

3) Gas moving through your gut.

Perhaps next time it buzzes you could find a helpful lady to answer it and take a message although it will probably turn out to be the Lupron calling to say that your services have been temporarily suspended.

In addition to tics/spams or gas, I think there are at lease 2 other possibilities

1. Phantom sensation (like those experienced by people who have had limbs amputated but still 'feel' pain or touch in that limb, or had shingles and months later experience pain)

2. Nerve growth (nerves grow VERY VERY VERY slowly, but when they do grow it can feel strange)

Interesting, I had exactly the same thing a week ago. It was a bladder spasm about 3 times per minute lasting about 15 seconds each.

I described it to my URO exactly like you did; a vibrating iPhone. He offered some medication, but since there was no pain involved and the side affects were not appealing, I decided to skip the medication.

Yes!!! Yes!!! I occasionally get it too. I also reach for my phone!
I never mentioned it to anyone.

Back in my youth I had a stricture from scar tissue that would buzz when I came. I thought it was normal and everyone had it. When I was about 35 I had the urethral stricture removed. I could pee a lot better but my special magic buzzing was gone. Oh well.

This buzz is different - and can't be shared with anyone. :-(

Thanks for mentioning it. I am not crazy. (Well, at least about that.)

So, Worried Guy, is that what you have been worried about? The buzzing? LOL

Andrew, I pull the phone out and the buzzing keeps going down there. It's sure not the phone. I am like TrainGuy, it is not painful or ( I guess) harmful so I sure don't want more meds for it. I have been thinking it is something to do with nerves damaged during that surgery.

I wish I could put Willie on the Do Not Call List.

Yep I never mentioned it either. I have looked at my phone also thinking it was a call. Interesting. Was not worried about it. At first I thought it was nerve regeneration. I guess not. If I felt that buzz long enough ..mmmmm possibilities. LOL

Guys, clearly your surgeon is getting another call.

Seriously though, lots of people who have had no surgery report the same feeling. I think it has something to do with your brain expecting a call or something, but there's plenty of stuff on the Google about phantom phone vibration.

Speaking for myself post-surgery, the strange sensations I get in my pants these days have nothing to do with my social life.

dontknowmuch- I never had this buzzing, silent ringtone slight vibrating sensation before I had the surgery.

I have been getting those cellphone calls all day today! Not painful, just annoying. I guess it will stop sometime. Anyway, there are bigger problems than this to deal with.

benign fasciculations if you can see the muscles spasms, if not probably nerve regrowth.

Maybe colic. I had renal colic because of a large kidney stone (worse ordeal ever) I've had colic from gallstones.
Colic comes from all manner of tube like structure's so it's possible that there is some small tube that's in spasm. So what happens is the muscle surrounding the structure contract causing a spasm.
Hey it's just a guess.
The only thing is it's not painful? Usually colic is painful but I'm not sure if it's always painful.

Neander, welcome to the forum.

There are other treatments available as u probably know, for Prostate Cancer that don't involve surgery. I'm not sure what you are hoping the supplements you take and following a proper diet will do. Proper diet, and the right supplements can sure be helpful in staying healthy but not likely to cure prostate cancer, and not likely to stop progression, especially if it's an aggressive type. Care to share your Gleason score from the biopsy? Age?

In any case, glad you joined us, hopefully you'll find lots of helpful info here.

I did a little searching and came up with a condition called "vibrating stomach."

It seems there are a good number of write-up's about it out there, such as

One of the more common things said about it is that many of the causes of it (a number are listed) are not serious.

Maybe a candidate for what we are talking about here?
