Hello, Zeke ~
I started with Lupron, but it did not fully suppress my testosterone, so my PSA showed "spikes and flares."
I then tried FIRMAGON. I had very painful & swollen site injection reactions, which stung like a hornet sting for days. FIRMAGON did not suppress my testosterone fully, either. Each case is different, but I was happy to be done with FIRMAGON. Those site injection reactions, for me, were painful and miserable.
I then tried ZOLADEX injections, which worked well for me. I have now been on it for years, with fully suppressed testosterone. For whatever reason, it worked best for me.
My lesson learned?
It was easy to transition to other forms of ADT, once the previous dose had "expired."
My oncologist led the way, and if FIRMAGON is causing these issues, be sure to explore the possibility of trying another form of ADT.
In my case, the "third time" was the charm, and my diligence in finding the best form of ADT paid off. My oncologist encouraged me through this whole process.
The most stressful part was waiting for a 3-month dose of LUPRON to "expire" before I could try other forms of ADT.
I may be one of the few here who have actually tried 3 different forms of ADT, to find the kind that helped me most.
I encourage you to discuss options with your oncologist. Sometimes, we have to become our own advocates.
Your heartbeat issue is certainly a valid reason to explore other forms of ADT.
