60Michael, I suspect he chose it because of, well, everything. His list of issues was long and very difficult to grasp when one realized it all applied to him, and him alone.

Purgatory seems fitting.

He is at peace now.

I knew that he had once explained his reasons for choosing "Purgatory" as his moniker. Thanks for finding the post. If suffering cleanses our souls of the consequences of our failings and shortcomings and "sins," David should have "fair winds and following seas" in the afterlife.

Thanks for the replies, and I kind of suspected that his health problems led to his choosing that screen name. There are people on this forum who have problems that make my health look like a nothing burger. And I try to remember that when I am having a bad day.

I have so many memories of David's posts when I was initially dealing with my diagnosis. There have been a few men we have lost on this site that truly impacted me. David is one of them. I pray for peace for his family.

Thank you David and I hope we meet someday in a better place.

So sad to hear of David’s passing!!

He’s out of pain and hopefully enjoying the streets of Heaven.

He was so strong for all those years!

Oh wow, sad news! He was here for me when I joined in 2011 and was always a great comfort. I had the opportunity to meet him and San Carlos for lunch near his home in S Carolina back in 2012. It was a mini GFMPH as I was traveling from San Antonio in my coach to my first GFMPH meet in NY. We all 3 had the best time as we talked about our situations and plans to treat. We also talked about the comradery of the members here on HW and topics of the time. 3 hours flew by like 10 minutes and we forgot to take a photo. We had many side conversations off HW and kind of saw those diminish over time. Rest in peace David and may you have fair seas and calm winds for eternity.

When I first came to this site back in 2013, I was in a bit of a panic. Many, many, guys here helped me tremendously, and I've been forever grateful.

Purgatory was one of them. He was a prolific poster, and was always willing to help new folks with fairly detailed conversations. When I was heading into radiation therapy, he reaffirmed the importance of having a full bladder, something I took to heart. He had so many painful bladder problems that beset him for years, all from bad guidance that was given to him during his radiation therapy. His RO said not to be concerned about the bladder, they would take care of that. Well, he suffered injury that required a suprapubic catheter from then on. I really felt for him.

So sad to hear he's gone.

Sad to see David's passing. His days of pain is over. I remember his first post here and the many, many after. He was one of the good ones. RIP friend.

So sad to hear of Purgatory's passing. He was such a warrior with his health issues and yet was an inspiration for us who were just beginning this battle. Rest in peace, you will be missed! Prayers for his family and friends
