Hello,

I have not been on here for a while. I joined about 7 years ago when my brother was diagnosed with Gleason 4 + 3. I found this site very helpful. Thankfully, he is doing ok still.

I am now coming her with hope for my brother in law instead. He just had a pet scan which diagnosed him with Prostate Cancer that has already spread to his hip and spine. That is all I know.

With that information, I am looking for hope here. Are there people on this site with a similar diagnosis that have been here for five years?

This is a crushing blow to our family. I am looking for positive stories.

Sorry to hear about PCa in your extended family. Yes, there are men that have been here a long time with a very poor diagnosis. They will chime in soon and provide some hope. He will need to be seeing the top doctors who will push the envelope for him. Dr. Kwon and Sartor at Mayo would be a good starting point.

The really good part is that the experts all know each other. They communicate and share challenges.

Duke is as good as it gets. He'll be in good hands.

Also, spinal mets was the worst diagnosis possible 20 years ago. So much has changed since then, it is almost always manageable today.

No, not my part of county, DjinTonic goes there I believe and should be able to help.

Look up posts by Wings of Eagles, he has been here since 2012 and is one of those amazing cases. Todd1963, Cyclone-ISU are some others that have done well for years. They should give your BIL some hope and they will respond at some point.

Eleven years ago I was diagnosed with mets to my spine and ribs. And in 2009 I was first diagnosed with prostate cancer. So without knowing more about your brother in-law, just know that there is hope

Thank you! Just know he had bleeding signs years ago

High PSA

about two? Years ago he went to a doctor. Supposedly tested did not have

Bad bad bleeding brought him back to hospital. Pet scan showed on hip and spine

I guess a big difference is that you treated before it spread and he found out after it spread

BTC, member Todd1963 had a PSA of 3200 at diagnosis and had widespread metastasis. He is doing very well, now, about 13 years later, enjoying life. If he makes sure he is in the hands of top medical oncologists that have a focus on prostate cancer, he should do well. Sorry I don't know any names at Duke.

Michael had mets which is the definition of spread then had treatment.
