Hello SteveO,
Every fellow I know feels anxiety, every time there is an uptick, even if it's slight, in PSA scores.
One thing my oncologist has emphasized, over time, when I am feeling anxious ... he reminds me that tiny fluctuation, under the O.10 threshold in PSA values, are common.
Make a list of questions for your Tuesday appointment. Sometimes we need guidance, but sometimes we just need reassurance.
Did your past testosterone tests show your testosterone level was less than 7?
When I switched over to ZOLADEX injections {ADT}, my testosterone
levels went below 7, which has helped stabilize my PSA.
LUPRON and FIRMAGON didn't fully suppress my testosterone, which led to PSA fluctuations. That's when my oncologist recommended I try ZOLADEX instead, which has suited me much better.
Do not hesitate to ask for a timely re-test for testosterone and PSA. That extra data would help you monitor things, and provide some helpful comparative data points.
As you know, for ten years, my PSA was assessed every month, since diagnosis in 2013. More recently, I changed the regimen to every 10 weeks. So, I have well over 100 PSA and testosterone scores in my medical records.
One thing I always ask my oncologist, if I see anuptick in PSA ~ "If we continue to see an upward trend, what would a 'next step be for my case, in terms of treatment or medications?"
I see my oncologist every 5 weeks, nowadays. He knows I will invariably have 2 or 3 questions, at every consultation.
He looks after me like a brother, for which I am exceedingly grateful.
Standing right alongside you, SteveO, and sending positive thoughts your way.
With all my best,
