well as usual nothing can go as planned, ended up
back in the hospital with a tear in my bladder. found it the day i had
my cath out.  started to pee blood 40 min after cath was out then got
worse.. and wow what a experience in pain.... in my abdomen and up my left side.. trust me their was not enough pain meds in the world when this hit. They reinserted the cath and
drew out 600cc of blood.  did some test where they filled my bladder
with some stuff to x-ray it found the leak, they say very small ( Me felt
like it was ripped all the way open..lol) have cath back in filling bag
as much as possible living in recliner, small amount of pain but very
tolerable.  go back to Barnes on 26 Sept for another cysto to check tear
and then to office to get Foley removed, i hope.  no offense this is a
***** things seem to be getting tougher as things go on, get depressed thinking dam i should
have done nothing at least i was able to  work and do everything.. and yes i know this was the best decision for me.  and things will get better.  talk to you later and will keep you up to date

Not the plan we all hoped for you but life seldom does what we want it to. Keep those spirits up and let the surgery heal. It'll all be on the mend soon. The 26th is just a few days away and youth (and not our good looks) is on our side yeah Paul

So sorry to hear that, if there is anything I or my family can do for you let us know. We are just in Swansea. Recliner is your friend, I am still sleeping in mine, can't lay flat or on side yet and can't get comfortable in bed.


Did they have any idea how you got a split in your bladder, doesn't really matter how the important thing is you are back on the mend, take care. You are in our prayers.

John They think when the cath was removed by my local dr he did not deflate the baloon all the way and stretched the bladder and uretha when he removed it.  now just sitting in the recliner again looking forward to next tues going to dr A's office to get it removed this time.  How long after you had yours removed did you finaly void? and do you  have pain when you lay on your sides? I have that now and a little blood in urine when i lay on my side but clears right up. i am going stir crazy sitting around i am use to action at work. Rick and all,

Got a call from Dr. A yesterday about pathology report. Mostly bad news.... 95% involvement with prostate. All was the worst cancer very agressive. Penetrated wall of prosate, through seminal vessicles, and the sheath around them all. No involvement of lymph nodes (a little sunshine) and a few cells in bladder neck. All of these were removed but the dr. fells cells may have leaked out and migrated. Meeting on Tues. cancelled and PSA on Friday. Then wait and see him after he gets results. Dr. A says there are still options so I will wait till I meet with him after PSA to go totally crazy.

Taking my pomegranate juice, selenium, and vit. D as several on forum do, hoping to slow them down if they're there til we can kill them.

Sorry to hear about your report keep your chin up Dr A is the best.  My path report not back yet so I have my fingers still crossed.. Still have my foley comes out on 26 Sept hope everything goes well this time.  At least we picked a option that more can be done by having the surgery. this was the best option.  let me know if I can do anything for you..

Dear Rick,   I am so sorry to hear about your setback.   Glad you're back to mending..... again.   And yes…. We are all glad you had your cancerous prostate taken out.   With your line of work…. I would think it would be smart to take a little extra time to heal!!     So – Enjoy the down time.       You’ll be back at it soon enough and healthier too!   You are a great support for each other ~ you and John.   It’s nice to see you guys keeping close!   This is a huge positive.     And yes… we are blowing the dark clouds away from both of you!!    * *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *           Dear John,   We have all traveled the same path up to this point….   Please know as you continue your journey ~ we will continue to be here for you with encouragement and strength… so pull from us     okay!!   The information that jumps out at me… in your posting and Rick’s postings…. are the positive comments….   This says a lot guys!!   Our hearts do go out to you and your family … having to deal with more than anyone should have to.   The diagnosis and surgery alone is a heavy weight for anyone.   Now you will continue your fight for quality of life ~ which in this day and age can be fought and won.     As your doctor stated: There are still options for you . Your age and health prior to surgery is a big plus.   So keep up the fight John and know that you are strong both physically and mentally…   Please……… keep us “all” close to you ~ as we will continue to keep you close in thoughts and prayers each and every-day. Rick, so sorry to hear about your setback, but since you've been relaxing and letting your body heal, you will be fine. Now you'll never wish for nothing to do! I hope you're not driving yourself too crazy. here's wishing you a good visit tomorrow.

John, sorry to hear that the pathology report wasn't the best, but like your doctor said, you have options.

everyone here kept telling me that having a positive attitude was the best thing we could ever do, and both of you men have that. I'll keep you and your families in my prayers. kat

Got a call from Dr. A about pathology report EXCELLENT RESULTS!!!!!!!!!!!  what a relief now if I can get rid of this foley the light at the end of the tunnel will beam... Sorry john your report was not as good but hang in their I am here for you.. I don't mean to be so happy with your report not as good but what a RELIEF!!!!!!!! Thank you John and everyone for being here for me..I feel GREAT..... :-)

Great news, so happy you got such good news. Dr. A is such a good dr. at least I think so. If there is anyway we can beat this I am sure we are "hitched up to the right horse."

I'm sure Dr. A's office gals will make the catherter removal a breeze tomorrrow, you can relax a little about that. The nurse that did mine was so gentle it was a breeze.

Please keep us posted.

My wife, children and I really appreciatre all the kind comments, thoughts and prayers from my new "friends" on the blog, you guys are the best. Makes the trying times and dispair a lot more bearable.

Rick, does the "The little store" in Troy have donuts and coffee .... maybe we can meet there someday soon and have a snack.

Great news for you, Arcafan! And so glad the horrors of the bladder tear are on the mend.

John - it's a shame to have to go back to the waiting game. My husb., too, had some leaked cells according to the pathology report and we're taking the first post-surgical PSA tomorrow and will know the results next Tuesday. But, at least we'll know what we're dealing with and that's because we opted for surgery. Without that path report, we might not know of any migration. One of the great advantages of surgery is to have those further options if necessary. Hang in there.

Well Just back from DR. A's office.. Still have my leash to my bag.. no go on the removal of the foley try again next monday.  Still have the tear foley still has blood in it so 1 more week.. John hope you are doing well keep your spirts up their is only one way for things to go now and that is up. that is the way i am looking at it.  That place in troy is that at troy scott rd and 40. a little grocery store or am i way off? talk to everyone later..John please let me know if I can do anything for you

I was back into Dr. A and had my first post op PSA test. Results by Monday or Tuesday. Got my fingers crossed and praying for good news.

Rick, sorry to hear you still have the bloody bladder issue but I'm sure Dr. A's staff know best. A week of discomfort now might save weeks or months of discomfort or worry later. When you feel better we'll go find that little store and I'll buy you a cup of Joe and a doughnut. hahaha..... keep those spirits up, a clean path is GREAT.

Well went to Dr.A on 2 oct 06 and still have tear, so guess what?  still have my friend hang(foley) had to give it a name it has been with me so long.  John they drew my post op PSA on the 2nd go back on the 10th to try and get foley out and get my PSA results. I can't believe it has been a month. Hope you are doing well and your PSA comes back ok.  How are you feeling? at least we have good weather to walk ..have a good week and I will talk to everyone later.  Oh and by the way my foley either comes out next week or me and Hang are going to Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte I have tickets for the Nascar Nextel Race on the 13th and 14th. well If he goes I will not have to worry about getting up from my seat and have to go to bathroom and miss any of the action  tongue HAHA..

darn Rick. I'm sorry to hear you still have "hang" hanging around. having that darn thing really bothered Jeff and that was only a week. but like John said, keeping it now and healing completely is better than the long term results of having it removed too early. here's wishing you the best!!

If anyone ever complains about their catheter … I hope they read this posting! You are a real trooper Rick.  I know you’ve not really had a choice in the matter … but considering everything you’ve been through post surgery….…..your attitude is wonderful!

 

Rick ~ We are all traveling the same journey with prostate cancer and some will have more stepping-stones than others…  Your excellent results!!!!!! from “your” pathology report is something to hoop and holler about, jump up-and-down, yahoo it, and feel that relief!!  And we “ALL” feel it too!!!!!!!   yeah  

 

That light is there waiting for all of us…….  So ~ keep stepping forward.

 

It’s been neat to see you and John keeping close tabs on each other!  Thanks for keeping us in the loop too!

I hated to hear about "hang", you must be felling better then I though because I wouldn't even consider riding to Charlotte. I am driving and working but am still sitting kinda softly, the thought of riding to NC isn't pretty.

Being a nerd I have a projector t.v. and a wall which equals a 12' diagonal NASCAR race right in my family room, thank goodness most are televised live. Yes I agree being there in person is better, the smells, sounds, beer, and snacks but the wall it isn't that far away. The playoff games and Ram's games are close-up and personal too.....haha. If you decide not to drive there you're welcome to come here and watch on "big" screen, Swansea is closer than Charlotte. Being from Indiana I was raised on racing and basketball, been to most USAC and ARCA tracks in the east and midwest.

We have a big bag and leg bag too still sealed in original plastic free if you need or could use them.

My PSA post op came back 0.37 not the .005 I was praying for but since it was only 22 days since surgery maybe it hasn't bottomed out yet. Going in next week again to be tested and Dr. A wants its results before our meeting on the 17th.

Hang in there, one more week, keep me posted.

Thanks for the offer to watch on big screen.  I have a 32 foot class A motorhome i will be traveling in.. my buddies will be doing all the driving.. so I will go from couch to bed and back. I get my results from the psa on tues. hope you are feeling better. I still get tired real easy but will get through that. looking forward to our coffee and donught when we both feel better. talk to you later

So it's the 11th, did you get a legal seperation or a divorce from "hang" yet? Haven't heard anything so I thought you might see this and laugh.

I had my second PSA test yesterday, results Friday I guess. Meeting with Dr. A on the 17th for post op discussion and prognosis of PSA results. Praying it's lower then 0.37 this time.

Hope to hear good news from you and him... hahahaha.
The race is almost here, when are you leaving? What were your PSA numbers?

HANG IS GONE  Divorced and removed  AT 11:35 CST..  YAHOOOOOOOOO.. yeah   yeah   tongue   tongue     The races were great left last wed and returned last night. cold at night but warm in the day. me and hang had a great time but I did inform him this was his LAST TRIP WITH ME AND THAT WE MUST PART OUR SEPERATE WAYS ON MONDAY... so he got even with me a gave me bladder spasm all the way home.. I feel great my post op PSA was 0.04  we are very happy. John I hope you have a good Apt tomorrow and let me know how you make out.

Congrats on seperation with Hang, he was a real drag......hahaha. Real happy for you.

The second PSA was 0.22 and we did another one today. Dr. A gave me the post op report, not good. Gleason was a seven.... down from 8 pre-op. The prostate was 95% involved. The seminal vessicles were penetrated and the prostate sheath penetrated. Bladder neck showed cancer cells. He removed everything suspecious but believes with the Katlan nomograph based on the numbers and pathology from my op that there is a 95% chance of re-occurance of my cancer within 5 years. He has sent me to a radiation expert at the Siteman Cancer Center and I have an appt. with him on Halloween.... ominous date huh. He said based on the outcome then we might also keep chemo and hormone therapy in our back pocket too. Good thing is there was no cancer in the lymph nodes removed. He said that is a good thing.

I think I have to "chill", pray, and take a day at a time. Radiation supposedly can't be started for 3-6 months so a while to worry and of course pray. He indicated the supplements were really too late now but the Pom juice is a good idea. My wife, family and friends of course are a great resource...... my wife is especially upset. Cancer sucks...... like we all don't feel that way.
