Hi,

I bought some pomegranate juice, but for the life of me can't remember why it's good for Curtis.  He asked me and I had no answer.  sad   Can someone help?

Pomegranate juice is high in antioxidants and is supposed to slow the doubling rate of prostate cancer cells. Don't know for sure if it works but a lot of people swear it does and I am drinking 12 Oz a day myself. I add 50/50 with cranberry or blueberry juice because pomegranate is soooooo bitter.

UCLA did a study on pomegranate  and it greatly slowed progression in the study group.  I think they're doing clinical trials.   I'm post RP and drink it every day.... i suggest POM Wonderful Brand----I've gotten so I actually like it>>>>>

THe University of Texas also did some study on Nexrutine---its an herbal anti inflamatory.    It appeared to have a some favorable affect on PSA....  I can't say go out and buy it, but I take that too....ANYTHING to tip the odds my way!

Hi wicket, we do the Pomegranate juice too. We've missed about a week since surgery, but I plan to start him back on it tomorrow. I buy the POM wonderful 100%, and have him drink half a bottle a day (about 6oz). That's what was used in the study except they did 8oz. I started a thread on it about a month ago, and SL (DWT's wife) said the used it and did have a drop in PSA. Worth a try...

Well I did buy some, but haven't been able to get him to drink any yet...you know how stubborn husbands can be sometimes.  He says he doesn't like the taste so I suggested mixing it with apple juice...still no luck, but I'm not giving up!!  I can be stubborn too!! yeah

If he likes cranberry juice mix it with it, I've actually began to like it. Cranberry good for bladder too. It beats the heck out of straight.... yuck.

To be honest, I was shocked when he did actually drink it. He has not been nearly as stubborn as I expected. Not to say he hasn't been stubborn at all. But he sort of likes a tart drink rather then sweet. The shocker for me was when he started drinking it without me telling him to. I think he was scared enough to do it. In fact he even recommended it to someone else. Isn't it wild how life threatening situations have the power to change everything you know as normal? I think part of the "Journey" is finding the new normal and settling into it. Don't ever give up.

Boy you got that right.  We immediately stopped taking each other for granted like the rut we'd gotten into over the last 39 years we've been married...hold each other more often and appreciate what we have together.

DW missed his Pomegranite juice in Santo Domingo, he really likes it now, didn't at first. I always did but didn't wanted to spend the money, its pricy. Got hooked on it in an Iranian restaurant. They drink a lot of it in these countries I understand, don't know if they have less PCa. Once in a while I sneak some of his juice. Why not. It did lower DW PSA along with Pectasol, Selinium, Lycopene, Swimom gave good advice on the other things to take.

I bought some selium for Curtis only to find that he gets 100% in his daily vitamin so I take it...can't hurt I guess.  As for the pomegranite juice he really likes it so doesn't have to mix it with anything.  I tasted it and it is rather good not sour at all.  Haven't tried Pectasol or Lycopene.  In fact this is the first I've heard of those two I think.

Confirm 75percent cancer volume...that just sounds wrong...really wrong. I think you are misunder standing something. I have never heard a f tha much volume in any prostate ever. I will defer to your wisdom however!

My total volume was 9 per cent and was told I had the cancer at least 10 years. R u sure you r not mixing up a core of cancer at 75????

I admit I'm a skeptic with regard to most alternative, complimentary, etc. treatments. But my new medical oncologist suggested I try taking some over-ther-counter herbal capsules that contain pomegranate, green tea, tumeric -- I won't mention brand name and am not recommending--but based on his advice I'll give it a try on the assumption that it at least won't do any harm.

My pathology report after open surgery read 75 percent in one lobe, small focus in other lobe. Agreed this is only 40 percent or so of total prostate, but within shooting range of what Kate reports.

Bohemond -- I took pom wonderful capsules daily for the first five years. in your situation I would still be taking them, fwiw.

F8 - Thanks. I'm now taking something similar. I've read a couple of papers suggesting this might actually have some beneficial effect. Here's hoping it helps slow the sudden increase over my last couple of tests.

Bohemond -- good luck man. I took several supplements for the first few years and gradually cut back to just the POM. I was kinda scared to quit but did after my 5-year check-up. I honestly believe it can slow progession, maybe dramatically. it sure isn't going to hurt you cool .

It's never going to hurt you. But help you? Twenty-million dollar questions that's been argued to death for years, here and elsewhere.

Both my urologist and my oncologist feel this all you are really doing is producing very expensive urine. But its your body and your money.

I agree with Purgatory...if it's a financial decision between putting healthy, plant-based food on the table or buying pomegranate tablets, put the healthy food on the table. If you can afford it, it's a smart thing to do to help leverage the multiple tools available to improve your likelihood of reducing progression...if that's important to you. It's a matter of priorities...it's a choice, but pomegranate is a smart choice.
