Thanks Glen! We found this website a few days after finding out our news.  It has been really helpful and I read so many things that really hit home.  It's nice to know that we are not alone in going through all of this.  It really touches a lot of lives.  The fact my husband is pretty young and hit with this has made a lot of people we know realize it needs to be checked earlier than most people think.  If we had waited until the usual "50" or so, that would have been too late.  It's a blessing our doctors are so cautious and we found this early.  Thanks for the Welcome!

Thanks jwtw! My husband is doing really well and it's been only three days.  He gets the Foley out Monday.  That will be the next experience.  Hope that goes as well as everything else has so far.  He's been walking a lot and that seems to be the key.

Hello Bluebird, Sorry it took me a while to get back to you but it has been non-stop here for us. This past month or so has been crazy as I'm sure everyone here knows how it becomes when you find out one has prostate cancer. We also have two sons (6 & 8 year olds) that we are keeping up with too and have tried to keep life pretty much normal to them. We live in Oklahoma City. The first Urologist we went to only performed the retropubic procedure. He's the one that performed the biopsy and the cysto. My husband also had CAT scans and bone scans ordered and they came back clear. When talking to a personal friend that works in the surgical area here in Oklahoma City, they recommended a doctor that specializes in the perineal procedure. We set up an appointment with him and have been totally pleased with the results with him. Due to the fact that my husband appeared to be in the early stages due to the PSA being 2.6, a Gleason of 3+4=7 at biopsy, clear CAT and bone scans, and a normal cysto procedure, this 2nd doctor felt that the perineal would be a good choice. He had surgery on Monday, October 23rd, he was released the next day. He was able to perform nerve-sparing on both sides. He had his catheter out last Monday and has had little incontinence problems. He had a little leakage last night but yesterday he was putting packed boxes in the attic while I was at work. Kinda overdoing it I might think. The doctor we chose learned the retropubic procedure and taught that procedure up North. When he came here, the Urologist group he joined performs the perineal. He learned that procedure and has a lot of experience. This was also verified by my friend in the surgical field in which I give a lot of credibility. As it has been stated many times on this forum, the experience of the surgeon is very crutial no matter what method you choose. We firmly believe in this doctor after many hours of deliberation and we are happy with our choice. I will be glad to keep you updated on how he is progressing as we go further down the road. It is definitely not an easy process for anyone. A lot of ups and downs but it is so nice to know that there are others that know exactly the feelings one goes through. If our experience and sharing of this procedure can help anyone, I think that is great. Everyone needs all the help they can get in choosing what might be right for them and as we all know, gathering all the knowledge you can get on this subject is the key. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone here on this site also!! Darla & John

Thanks.  That is what I told him.  I had to have a hysterectomy last year and you can't over do it or it might throw you back a notch.  He seems to be doing really well so far.  Hasn't really had anymore noticable leakage since that night.  Maybe that was a little lesson for him to "not over do it".  I've told him that previously but perhaps he's a believer now.     His doctor really didn't put any restrictions on him but I told him that I didn't think the doctor would be thinking he'd be hauling boxes up in an attic 8 days after surgery.  That's what I'm here for.
