Taking Viagra, but legs ache!! (Old Thread)

My husband is also taking the viagra with great results.  It doesn't make his legs ache, but if he takes more than 25mgs he gets a headache and also see's things with a blue hugh(sp).  The doctor warned us it could make his vision blue tinted for awhile and cause headaches and other side effects.  We go back to our Doc November 23 and are going to ask him about cialis or lavitra to see if they work as well but don't have the same side affects.  Hubby doesn't need 100mg to be intimate though, 25mg is enough when he's in the mood.  Have you tried just using 50mg before jumping to 100mg?  That might help with the side effects.  Also, the side affects may back off in a few weeks after your system gets used to the drug.  We'll let you know what the doc tells us next month as far as side affects and other drugs go.

perhaps your legs are trying to tell you they like 1/4 but not 4/4

My solution for aching legs has always been a little potassium and a daily dose of magnesium. If back aches are a known side effect then leg aches is certainly possible. Perhaps, like you said, you can get past it. Maybe try 50 instead of 100?

Leg pain with Viagra! Yes, you're not imagining it, and, sorry other replier, it's NOT a muscle strain from having sex! (sure, you can have that, and it's a badge of honor). No, this muscle pain from Viagra is wicked! For me it started in the back; almost thought I had a kidney stone. Then it moved to the legs, then elsewhere. I had it first with Cialis cause that daily pill sounded like a good idea -- but I had back pain before I could even build up a level for action! By the way, my Doc was no help other than switching meds, which didn't help either. Complaints of muscle ache with Viagra/Cialis are rampant on good sites such as this, but Docs can ONLY go on stuff with research studies, and there aren't any as far as I know.

Cut to chase: Viagra/Cialis work by increasing nitric oxide levels. I read up on NO and found that other things increase it, like L-Arginine, and some so-called "male enhancement" pills like Vigrx. There are many others. Here's the scoop -- a side effect of overdose of L-Arginine (and therefore NO) is "electrolyte imbalance". That's what you're feeling, since it's not like any other muscle pain, right? So, I'm now experimenting with sufficient electrolyte supplementation prior to using any of these NO enhancers. Give it a try and report back... I'm not giving up enjoying life with my girl. Give me an "amen" anybody out there? ;_)

Do you have a RCT backing that up? (just kidding, sounds reasonable to me, especially if it works for you)

This is a common problem for men that use ED drugs. From what I have read out there Cialis seems to be the biggest culprit. I am 53 and have been using different ED drugs for about 5 years now. I am currently using Viagra as it seems to give me the quickest results with the least amount of side affects. I take about 25 mg a session.

At first I had the normal flushing and congestion and felt very tired and drained the next day (also common side affect). However, more recently I have been getting severe lower back pain, leg pains and pains in my ass. The pain even travels up to my shoulder area as well. I also notice my hands, face and feet are somewhat swollen and my hands will fall asleep at night way more than they used to and it's not from me sleeping on them. I feel awful and swollen. It's very uncomfortable.

The pain will last for several days before subsiding. It has gotten so bad that I have had to stop taking the Viagra to give my body time to recuperate. This has been very difficult for me and my girlfriend. My girlfriend has an insatiable sex appetite and wants it every day. At first I could live up to her expectations but no longer. I think the Viagra has now accumulated in my tissue and it's just too painful for me to take that often. It's been difficult because the sex with her is beyond amazing.

Anyhow...I have done a lot of research on this subject and I have tries all kinds of different supplements and what not. Cialis and Levitra make the problem even worse.

I agree with the other member that it is from one of 2 things. It definitely causes an overdose of Nitric Oxide and taking other supplements like L-Argenine will make you feel like your dying and I did feel like I was dying. It's also probably due to the fact that since it is a vasodialator...all your blood vessels swell and this could be a cause for much pain throughout your entire body.

However, what was most alarming to me and what I have never seen in all my research on the internet is that my girlfriend starting feeling most of my symptoms. She was not aware that I was even taking it for 2 years so I know she was not trying to copy my symptoms. When she started complaining of body aches all the time and feeling tired and sick the following day after a good session the night before that's when I started to get suspicious that she was feeling the side affects too. But when she started telling me that her hands were falling alseep all the time for no reason that's when I knew the Viagra was now in her system and affecting her. I had to tell her. It was very difficult and still is. As much as I love this women and the sex is the best I have ever had with anyone I just feel like I can't keep doing this to me and her.

It concerns me that there are not more people writing about this as I am certain we can't be the only couple suffering from this. I think the big drug companies do very good job of scouring the internet and taking down as much bad publicity as they can.

I have tried just about everything from all kinds of special herbs and spices and different supplements but can't seem to find anything that works.

Does anyone have any positive suggestions for me ? I love this girl and without sex I think we are done.

Cialis was incredibly painful in my front thighs. There's a lot of ED forums. Looking....and you'll see this isn't uncommon. Some men literally cannot walk with Cialis. (I wasn't far from that).

Viagra isn't as convenient. But I get no side effects from it.

Thank you very much for the responses. I am really struggling trying to figure out this mystery of why I am having such bad reactions and now it's affecting my girlfriend which is very troubling. I did start a new thread but I am actually receiving better responses here.

I will consider trying Cialis again but the pain was excruciating in my lower back and my legs would cramp up badly. I will admit I only used it maybe about 10 times before giving up.

Does anyone know if it is indeed possible to pass the active ingredients onto your partner through your semen ? I am absolutely certain that my girlfriend is experiencing many of the symptoms I have. Mainly body aches and pains and upset stomach. They seem to subside after about 3 - 4 days but they come back even worse the next time around as if the active ingredient is accumulating in my body.

Any thoughts on this ?

My apologies. I do not have prostate cancer and realize I probably should not have jumped onto this old thread. It was the only thread I could find that really offered any discussion about the use of ED medications and their side affects.

I have started my own thread since this post but have not received any replies. Again, my apologies.

I just love all the armchair docs we have in the house to begin with, along with their suggestions/answers regarding leg pain and doses for Viagra, etc.

As ONE who has tried Viagra, Cialis and the generic of Viagra, ALL of them have caused me both headaches and leg pain, the leg pain having lasted 3-4 days recently with the Viagra generic, so please don't suggest that the leg pain is cramps or a pulled muscle, etc. It is directly due to the use of the drug(s).

For me, Cialis was the worst regarding leg pain. It was so bad I couldn't sleep at night. Viagra gave me the worst headaches and the generic of Viagra is the least "invasive".

Obviously my history may not mirror that of others who have taken one or more of these "erection enhancers", but these two side effects are clearly stated in the cautionary instructions.

End of story and I hope it helps one or more of you out there!

P.S. I have a history of not doing well with many kinds of drugs, so I may not be the best "expert". For example, I tried cholesterol drugs as well as natural cholesterol reducing herbs, etc. and I had very adverse side effects despite them having worked significantly well to reduce my LDL and raise my HDL.
