Davinci procedure Thursday 10/12/06 surgery at 1:30PM 2 days in hospital including surgery day

Was in my room at 9:00 PM Thursday my surgery time was a little longer than most

All day Friday 10/13 was a drag I was really wiped out during the day. Friday afternoon it got better by a bunch. I walked the hospital halls no problem.

Ready to go home 10/14 Saturday morning felt real good  Doctor released me and I went home.

I think if my surgery had of been earlier in the day and not taken so long under anesthesia I could have gone home the next day like a lot of others. I think the anesthesia really wiped me out.

I had the DaVinci procedure at 3:30pm Thurs. and was in the car headed home Sat. 9:30am.

I would have left Friday if the doctor had said OK, but he was very cautious and kept me till Sat. morning.

The stay was long enough, and I have this thing about sleeping in my own bed; tubes, bags, and all. A added incentive is home cooking, and I knew my wife had prepared a whopping special meal Friday night in anticipation of my home coming. Therefore it was imperative I get home before the kids ate it all up.

I think you get the point from the previous posts. Generally, if all goes well you should be out in two days. Some are out in one. I was offered the opportunity for discharge one day following surgery, but decided to take full advantage of the two days approved by my insurance! Count on admittance the day of surgery, not the day before, even for an early a.m. procedure, due to insurance. You will not be discharged unless you are ready. So, I wouldn't worry about it.

Let's see...  Surgery was Wednesday at 2:00. Got up to my room at 10:00 that night (they kept me in recovery for a while but that was another story).

I was walking (carefully and slowly) the next morning and let for home at noon.  The doctor gave me a choice to leave at noon before lunch or at 2:00 after lunch.  I chose the earlier time - I just wanted to get home.

I was certainly ready mentally to leave.  I was pretty sore and walked pretty slowly and the 1-1/2 hour drive home was OK (I felft EVERY bump).

George, Radical Perineal Prostatectomy performed Monday, 9:30am, in room by noon. Released the next day and only 25 minute drive to the house. Would have been released early Tuesday morning but was nauseated from the pain medicine they gave. He didn't take any more after that. Up walking around the house with bag much better than around the halls of the hospital. He was glad to be home and did fine.

Probably not the exclusive club that anyone ever envisioned signing up for - but also probably the best site on the web where you can ask any question at all and receive honest, concerned and caring first hand replies.  I know it helped shred the layers of fear, doubt and uncertainty that I had.

I see you were diagnosed 8 days after me. Don't know your age (I'm 59 almost 60) but our count and psa are close. I just had the CT and Bone Scan on Monday and will get the results Tuesday of next week. I've got every appendage on my body crossed for a good outcome.
