My father was diagnosed with Prostate cancer 2 months ago and they won't do surgery till Dec. he looks terrible as he is up all night long using the restroom.  He get's up to urinate 5- 6 times a night and he is so tired all the time now.  The cancer has caused so much swelling that he has pressure all the time.  Is there a medication to help till Dec? Or any suggestions to help him get some relief.

There are meds to help some of the urinary symptoms, so check with his doc to see what is suggested for him.  He might also limit his evening beverages to lessen his night-time urine production.  I'm sorry your dad is going through this.  All the best to you guys.

Yes there is.  One is called ....... FLOMAX.  Its kind of late to give him that though.  Takes a couple of weeks to kick in.  I know what hes going through.  I did that for a long time.  Started Flomax  two years before surgery.  I was taking two a day at time of surgery.  Thats more than normal and had to fight the prescription plan to get that.  It helped a lot.  I was going all day and night.  It interfered with my sleep and my job.  Flomax stopped that.  Good luck on your dads surgery.

Tinker, sorry about your dad..... I've taken Flomax and it works well. But, I've had success with the use of Saw Palmetto. SP is a natural herb that costs a fraction of Flowmax. Have your dad take 2-3 gelcaps of SP in the morning and 2-3 again before he goes to sleep. It may not completely solve the problem, but it should help a bit.

Thank you for your advise and I will talk to him tonight about less to drink at night.  He is taking flomax and it doesn't seem to help, so I will tell him to ask if he can up the dose.  I will ask his doc if it is ok to start him on the saw palmetto too.  My Dad is 70 and he and my mom are my best friends.  The day I found out about his cancer, part of me just shut down.  I have sang at the Relay For Life Cancer Walk Luminary Service for the past 5 years, and I used to think, "Oh I feel so bad for all those people".  This year it will be me and my family walking around that walk.  Thanks for the replies.

Yes ~ we understand the feeling when you heard your dad has cancer… That’s what makes this forum so powerful….. We’ve been there and we know the “exact” feelings that enter our beings. Lean on us and we will be able to help you get your “shut down”…. Started up yeah



What procedure did they decide on? He needs to be in really good shape for any procedure. Have you talked to his doctors about his health going downhill? This is so important… jump on it!

Superior advice on the exercise.... I am scheduled for surgery in February and I am going to spend the waiting time redoubling my exercise schedule and dieting (sensibly) to knock off some of the weight (fat). I am determined to go into the surgery strong and fit.
