   Hello friends, Just a quick note were packed and I hope ready to head out early monday morn. 0530 for the mayo clinic. We need to be there by 1100 for some pre-op. This is starting to feel like some kind of a dream kinda scary. Well don't know if I'll post till after surgery so say one for me. God Bless  jw

You're very close to getting on the other side. Congrats. It'll go fast in some ways and drag in others. Having a date is always a great step, though. Get ready for a few liquids and other niceties. But, then it'll be over and you'll wake up ready for the next round!

I am 17 days post Da Vinci and doing well. I still remember those last three to four days before surgery and they were tough. I spent a lot of time just walking. That helps do the final tuneup on your body and it takes your mind off of it some. I went out and had a good meal the night before the bowel prep. You might want to do that as you will not see solid food for 3 to 4 days. Bowel prep day I did a lot of Soduko puzzles and read a novel. The prep was really not that bad. Once you hit surgery day then things will pick up speed for you. While I had the Da Vinci and was pain free I think many of the open guys have also come out with little pain. Get up and walk as soon as you can as you will feel much better once your stretch your abdomen some. Good luck and I look forward to hearing your report.

Counting down with you jw!! We too remember those last few days well! For whatever reason Bob's was a TWO DAY bowel prep -- yuppers complete with the clean out BOTH nights. His last full meal was a Sunday . . . .Surgery on a Wednesday . . . .home Friday . . . next full meal. HA HA!

Good luck to you -- before you know it this will be weeks behind you and you will be into the next phases of your journey. Please keep us posted along the way.

    Hello friends its monday evening we are at a days inn right across the street from the hospital where my surgery will be. We just got the call surgery at 0900 tuesday morn. Im just getting ready for my pre-op prep. I think you know what I mean yuk. Bluebird good catch you don't miss much what would we do without your special guidance your a saint. Im still learning how to work this darn thing. Can you tell im a bit nervous I don't normally ramble on. Well time to go see on the otherside. God Bless us all.  jw

Good Luck JWTW,  I too had the RRP.  It's not going to bee all fun.  But it's not going to be all bad either.  You will be back to the normal side of things before you know it.  Start back with the walking as soon as you can. I didn't due to my leakage, but should have.  Just the two days of walking I have done now I can see things starting to change.  Hope you can learn from my mistake!

Look forward to hearing a update post op.

Hello Friends, Sorry I haven't updated. Didn't get out of surgery until midnight the 22nd, made a huge mistake and took the four hour bumpy ride home that same afternoon.  This caused a huge setback I'm sure.  Good news is- all cancer contained in the prostate, good margins, clean lymph nodes.  On the road to recovery, figuring out minute by minute what works best for us.  Thanks for all the prayers and positive thoughts.  This site made this journey easier, if that is possible.  More later, Love John and Tracey

Ouch on the bumpy ride home. Be sure and take care of yourself and don't overdo. Bob did exactly as the doctor ordered and didn't lift more than a phone book for 6 weeks post op. He's had very little discomfort in any way (other than getting continence back) and now that's he's doing more normal activities (lots of snow shoveling in this part of the country) it's not bothering him at all.

Please keep us up to date. We care and want to know how you are doing.

jwtw....Well glad to hear your home and cancer was contained, but I bet that drive home was awful hard on you!!  Rest and rest some more to get over that!!!

Dear John & Tracey,   You’re updating now and that’s what is important to us!!! We usually expect a 3-5 day period…before we hear anything…..   I hope things continue to go well for both of you!   Take time to rest and rest some more.    You too Tracey….. Man-oh-man…. 4 hour ride home…. Take this as a sign to not over do it now that you’re home.   … OKAY!!!!!!!!   It’s easy to do when you start feeling better…. But don’t….   Take the time to recover/heal properly.   You’ve had major surgery and the body needs this time.   Our thoughts and prayers are with you.   Make sure Mr. Hang is your friend.   If you fight him he will win.   Let him guide you along…… and know he is allowing you to heal inside.   Take care and take it minute by minute…. It only gets better!!!!!   One-day-at-a-time.   Hugs to you both, Lee & Buddy     Hey Wicket…. This is the same surgery Buddy had. RRP = Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy   ( open surgery) 6-7 inch scar from navel to pubic bone. Take care dear friend.... Lee :)

yeah John and Tracey,

you are now home recovering. I hope you're both getting some decent sleep and doing well. it won't be the easiest thing you've ever done, but the time will fly by, the catheter will be gone, and then you'll really be feeling good! take care, kat

Congrats on your margins!!! Thats great news. I feel for you knowing 1st hand what that post surgury car ride felt like. That was the worst part of the whole experiance for me. Even worse than the 3 hr plane ride. But now that part of it is over, you can stop worrying about it and get on with getting better and back to normal. Just remember it will take time, don't try to rush it and you will be fine. If you have any questions, please fire away!! The good people here will help you!

  Good morning my friends its been eleven days since my surgery things are going grrrreat! Tracey is back teaching her firstgraders much the same as taking care of me lol. Well I go to my doctor today to get my drains removed then I have more options in clothes to wear. Also I would like to wellcome the new members to this site. We are open books with open hearts ready to help any way we can. Bless us all.  jw. Hello my dear friends sorry for not posting much still not real comfortable on the computer. Heres the great news at our house cath. is gone yippie skippy! Went to my uro. yesterday had hang removed was'nt bad at all so if your soon to have your cath. removed try not to worry its really not that bad. Also more good news seem to have complete controll of my bladder also this seems kinda strange but I was having erections when still hooked up to my cath so I hope this is a sign of things to come. I may not say alot but what I say is from my heart thank every one here for walking me thru this. I still check this site daily to follow the progress of my teammates stay strong my brothers your in my prayers. jwtw
