You are so right. Getting out of the robes, pajamas etc and back to street clothes is certainly a mental lift in itself. As I am sure your finding out like the rest of every day is an improvement over the last.

Post-op day 14, post-cath day 8

I had the "whips and jangles" yesterday from the drugs. Also I thought I was too smart and went without the Kegels. Then I went shopping for about 4 hours. And guess what, I had a big leak in bed last night. This whole recovery deal can be so exhilerating and so humbling. But maybe I learned my lesson. I'm doing Kegels today and taking it a little easier.

I've been reading other threads on this forum about potency. My first attempt at sex was a total failure. Flat tire. Nothing. Nada. I took some Levitra but it did nothing. (I used it prior to PCa because I could always get it up, but it wouldn't stay up long enough to finish.) I read on this forum that it could take 6 mos. or longer for the nerves to heal.

So, all in all, yesterday was a real learning experience, humbling but very educational.

I just noticed your "I have cancer, but cancer does NOT have me".  You are exactly correct. I mean dead nuts on.  Right as rain.  El perfecto. Perfect.  Cancer can just take a hike and get lost. You are strong and it is weak.

Post-op 3 weeks, post-cath 2 weeks

No leaks! Doing Kegels as prescribed (rather than doing too many) works great. My second greatest fear (incontinence) seems to be under control.

I'm also doing some ED exercises and can report some progress although nothing really useable yet. At least I am past the "flat tire" stage and feel very encouraged by that.

I still have the low level "monkey-on-my-back" from the drugs. My past experience says that this will probably last for about 3 months more or less. This is a very small price to pay for so much benefit.

RRP was truly the right way to go for me. I have no more pain and can do my stretching exercises (arthritis) and daily walks just as before. Having the cancer out of my body (hopefully) gives me great peace of mind.

AMEN Biker!! It gives me a peace of mind too! Of course I beleive RRP was right for me although I didn't for a long time! I don't mean to pry, but what kind of drugs did they give you that are giving you withdrawl sympems for 3 months? I never heard of anyone having a problem like that.
I have taken all types of pain killers and never had anything more than a flu like feeling for a couple days when stopping.

Hey Pete,

You are not prying at all, I have no secrets. They put morphine in the spinal injection for the surgery. I had absolutely no pain for 2 days but itched and puked for a while. I have taken presciption pain killers several times through the years and the after effects always linger for a while. It is nothing serious but it is a change from my normal "feeling good" that I enjoy so much. Its like anything else that I tend to take for granted until I lose it. Its a good reality check.

Thanks Bluebird, Lawink, Jetguy and all you other great people on this forum.

Mama biker gets hugs on a regular basis and she is actually glad to still have me around for a few more of the same.

I am back at work teaching mathematics part-time at the local community college. It keeps me interested and gives me an excuse to get up in the morning. Keeping up with those young people keeps my brain young even though my body continues to age.

The day of my 0.04 PSA came exactly 2 months after I was diagnosed with cancer. I can't believe that it all happened so quickly. Those two months seemed like two years as we went through the process of choosing a treatment, waiting for the surgery then recovering. Your kind support lent a bright spot to each day. Thank you all so very much.

We feel the LOVE…..     Jim,   I recently met a lady at the Y! and she said her husband is a professional student!   She then informed me he is 84 this month….   And had just retired last year from a long career in “traveling” sales.   She said he was sitting around getting old.   Told him to get busy.   So ~ he enrolled in the community college.   The “kids” love him.   They all invited him to attend their graduation!    Thank you for sharing with us!!!   This is sooo true!!!  "Cancer feeds on fear.  Starve it to death."   You have been a joy to be friends with…. Thanks Bluebird. I really enjoy telling my students stories of how it was in college back in the 50s. They just roll their eyes and slump in their chairs. (A little history is good for them!)

No Pete, the bike is put away for the winter. It will roar to life in March or April depending on when the ice melts.

Post-op week 5

I'm back at work teaching mathematics part-time at the local community college. I get tired easily, probably due to the surgery but really feel good about everything. My wife is lots better (she had a lung infection) and just got done painting the living room. (Yes, I helped!)

There's no more pain in the incision and no problems holding my pee. I have to get up to go a couple of times at night. Right after the surgery, it seemed that my bladder was really small. Maybe it was due to the internal swelling because I have lots more capacity now. I had trouble going for about 2 years prior to PCa and that is all fixed now. I can pee like a 65 year old again!

I'm still working on the erections. I get about 50% now. That is up from 0% right after the catheter was taken out. My wife is very patient with my progress in this area. We are confident that we will get back in the sack soon.
