Ed,
I felt quite a bit of discomfort when the J.P and the catheter were removed.
Just an uneasy feeling and a little pain. On both occasions, by the time the pain started to bother me, it was over.
The sleeping issue is normal. General anesthesia, pain killers, pain, trauma, catheter discomfort - all contribute to the issue. Drink a lot of water and keep walking. My doctor wanted me to do kegels with the catheter in. While it really isolates the muscles involved, I found it hurt a little and didn't do many. Do what kegels you can but avoid lifting for a few weeks!
