Thanks for the prayers and support from all of you.
I had surgery on Wed morning and got home Friday night. First and most importantly one of the Doctors said he got the lab results and there was a clean margin. I would do a little happy dance but I think it might hurt.
The surgery took a over four hours with two surgeons. I guess the prostate attached itself to the bowel and was hard to remover without perforating the bowel. My wife said they looked tired and happy when they came out.

One kind of funny thing that happened was all day Thursday I couldn't use my legs. Although I could move them, they couldn't support me and did weird things. One of the "party tricks" they did was that if I hung them over the bed, they would levitate to horizontal for a while and then drop on their own. It was weird to watch and after a while I had orthopedic, prostate, anethesiologts all confering on whether it was serious. Suffice it to say it went away, I got up, walked and came home.

Now it is just the healing. and PSA tests

David - Welcome to the other side.  You are now on the road to healing and are cancer free . .. that's the ultimate!!!!  Take it easy my friend and don't overdo, even when you feel wonderful . . . remember, lift nothing heavier than a milk jug.

Keep us posted!  Glad the leg thing wasn't long term or serious.  yeah yeah

David,

Great news and our prayers have been answered! Its also a blessing to have early news about the clear margins. Take it very easy and slow as the others have mentioned and let Mr. Hang become your friend (even though you will be very happy when he is gone). :-)

Wewere thinking and praying about you last night and it brings us great comfort to hear from your...

Old Ford Lover,

Congratulations!  Your excellent prognosis for recovery reminds me of a personal "Old Ford Lover" story about prevailing....

My first car, at age 16, was a twenty year old 1949 Ford with a flathead-8-cylinder engine.  I bought it for $30.  It ran great - 90 mph!  However, the fuel pump on that model was notorious for a "vacuum lock" that could be cured only by stopping for awhile - or placing a half a grapefruit over the glass ball of the fuel pump to cool it down...  ( tongue These cars were literally repaired with baling wire, a pair of pliers, and a ball pien hammer.)

Over a couple of years I replaced this pump with 4 or 5 rebuilt units - that all quickly developed the vacuum lock condition.  Finally, one Ford dealer in Odessa Texas went into the back and produced a brand new (22 year old!) 1949 Ford fuel pump!  I never had another fuel pump problem.

Wishing you perfect health from another old lover of Fords smurf  .  (I also once had an 18 year old 1966 Mustang....)

Oldford - that's excellent news. And one burden that can be lifted!

Please take it easy - even as you start to feel better, remember this was major surgery and a lot of intricate cutting went on in there.

Way to go David! Great news all around! And take it easy, even if you feel great. If you overdo, your body will soon remind you that this was major surgery!
Sorry to be repetitive, but I don't want you to learn this the hard way like I did!

Dear David & Loved Ones,   Warm hugs and calm thoughts …… and we will dance  with you!!!   We are thrilled to hear from you!!!   You are now on the healing/recover stepping-stone.   Thank you for allowing us to walk with you…   WOW….. Congrats on a successful op. Results sound great!

Maybe you can discover the cause of the leg levitation and use it for your third leg - if you need the help later hehe!

Today is Tuesday--Surgery was last wednesday--I got out of the hospital Friday.
I am amazed how easily everything has gone. I expected the surgery to be worse, as well as the pain. Not to say that I am running any foot races but I can walk to the end of the property and back (a couple of blocks) without any problem. Tomorrow it is out with the stitches. Although one of the Doc's told me I have clean margins--I look forward to seeing the lab report on my own. I find that I can get back to some things and am looking forward to recovery. It has been a hard few weeks for us here. All of our involvements have been hard. My wifes Hashimoto's encephalopathy has gotten our of control, but I think that with a few weeks recovery she will get back to her recovery..My grandson is getting better every day. he came over for the morning shift and I held and fed him for a while. He is a real blessing.

Getting a little used to the Cath--although I don't think it will ever become a friend.--Well it comes out in another week and by then I should be back to closer to normal

I just got off the phone with my Doc.--amazing man--all the final pathologies came in--lymph clean--prostate capsule was not penetrated--seminal vessels which were removed were clean. The doctor was very surprised--I got the impression that he was not expecting this at all.

Maybe the most surprising thing was that he said on review I had some grade 5 cancer in the prostate.---This made my gleason a 9 and not an 8.

If I didn't feel like a lucky man before--I would be naive to not feel luck now.

I don't know why I have been so lucky--I know I will begin PSA testing in a few weeks--but it all looks great.

I couldn't believe how surprised my doctor sounded--surprised and happy.

I would recommend my doctor to anyone--although not a lot of people want to travel to rural Colorado for surgery.
