Still wear pads mostly for insurance at work. Just can't afford a minor leak thru the slacks. My surgery was last October so the weather was at least cool for the beginning of my pad-wearing days. Now that the temps are climbing outside, the temps behind these pads is also. It's a relief when I have to go to the bathroom. It lets some air in during the process. Summer's gonna be tough if Spring is any indication.

Would be interesting to see a poll on what kind of pads people use. I found there is a big difference. I like the Serenity pads.

Recently I only have been putting in a pad when doing my baseball umpiring, or when I'm going to be somewhere that I'm not sure I can get to the restroom promptly.  I use a women's pantyliner, which is much smaller and you can still use the fly on your underwear.  This will catch the occasional drip that can sneak out if you make a sudden move or something, and it's not as "hot".   Just a thought....

I should have specified. I like the Serenity for Men. It's a lot thinner than the Depends. I only need it to catch the occasional drip as mentioned above. Apparently, there's enough manmade material or plastic to hold in the heat.

I have seen a pad that is alot thinner and made only for men. It looks like a cup guys where in baseball, but I can't find them locally and having a hard time on line. I can find their website, but nowhere to order. The brand is Attends. I will keep looking and if I find them, will let you all know what Kurt thinks. He has been going back in forth between the depends and serenity products and is always hot. Courtney

Now this is a topic I can speak to!

Since men have had to wear these pads I would have thought by now that someone would've come up with a means to cool them...you know how you guys are always fixing things...well, apply that here.

Hmmm...I have a few suggestions:

A mini pad fan perhaps...or a metho style of pad covering...a penis ice pad...oh! oh! How about a sheath sock? Or a Mr. Silly Slip on Pad?

i also would like to know what pads men are using and which they like!

we haven't bought any yet, but in walgreen's the other day picking up some prescriptions and i wandered over to the aisle and was kind of overwhelmed! I felt like i was a teen again having to buy my own supplies for my period and looking around. But of course back then, i just kind of went with "well these are the kind my mom has." and then learned over many years of experience what i liked and didn't :)

fortunately my dad has never had to keep pads around, so can't really go with the "these are what my dad uses!" :)

we both feel clueless when looking at the packages! Short of ripping the package open and looking, how do you decide? and what do you use?

oh and just wondering do any of them have like those "stay-dri" wick-away liner like "Always" brand women's panti-liner's do ... i personally like those for *me* during my period, but can't tell if they use the same stuff in any of the men's?? (ok, you guy's probably have no clue what i am talking about :) but maybe a wife can help out :))

I was able to find Serenity for Men at Walmart. I heard Walgreens also carries them. They arent that easy to find. My surgeon also was glad to find a store that carries them as they are perfect for the occasional leak.

I'm a Serenity for Men fan, but they are hard to come by.  In desperation, my wife had picked me up some Safeway and Long's Drug brand pads, which I've used when in a pinch.  But I've had to let the callous build up to be reasonably comfortable in those -- ya know what I mean guys? My father always said, "The dearest is the cheapest," and he was right.  I say go with Serenity.  They're the Cadillac of pads. (I can't wait to trade in my "Cadillac" for a pair of my old boxers.)

I'm still using the Depends Guards for Men. I need the extra thickness to contain my leaking. I have had a few leaks at work the last two weeks. Going in tomorrow for the Cottegen injection. I hope it helps!!!

www.drugstore.com is the best place to buy Serenity for Men. No questions or funny looks, either.

I prefer Serenity to Depends, though I have some of each due to running out away from home in the past. Depends I find are bulky and a slightly odd shape, and droop when they are even slightly filled, compared to Serenity.

While I bought a package of Serenity for mens, that resembled the cup I use for my baseball umpiring, I have been fortunate not to need that much protection.  That's why I turned to the women's isle, actually borrowing one from my wife after she had a bladder infection.  They take care of that occasional drip that comes without warning.  I had a double header today, and could have gotten by without one, since there was a porta-potty there for between games!

I know you women are chuckling, reading men talking about which pad we prefer!  How this disease can bring the male ego down a peg or two!!!

I found the Attends at a web site www.justattends.com. I ordered them yesterday, so I will let you know what Kurt thinks. Oh and Hawk, not trying to bring anyone's ego down. PCa does a funny thing to men. As 2 of Kurts doctors put it, It makes you do things that women have dealt with for years. Courtney

To all you guys - Though I've been known to be a Smart A** (my husband will swear to that!) there's no one who respects you more than I do.

You give so much of yourselves to ALL of us. So open, caring and willing to put yourselves out there.

I truly thank God ya'll are just the way you are! :-)

Now to answer the original question: Don settled on Serenity and used mucho baby powder. I love baby powder.

Hey Dawg,

    My surgery was October also.  I had gotten back to soaking a pad in about an hour when on my feet.  My Dr. wanted to do the collagen injection to help build up the sphincter.  While it was not a pleasant epxperence but it seems to have worked.

Hi Folks,

I'm about seven months out and still have occasional leaks on the order of a few drops after voiding, which is often, because I think I lost some bladder capacity with the surgery.

I looked at the Attends website and the ones that look like a cup look neat, but they are kinda pricey online.

I have experimented with using an Always women's product that is kind of a cross between a pantyliner and a thin maxipad, the super long kind without the wings. I take two of them, and put the top of the adhesive side of one on the top of the absorbing side of the other. Then I take the bottom of the one that was on top and twist it around, so that that one's absorbing side sticks to the bottom adhesive side of the other. This makes a cup similar to the Attends thing, but at a fraction of the price. The adhesive parts of both of these then can be attached to the inside of the pouch area of one's shorts.  The twist forms an overlapping area that doesn't leak.

For what it's worth, which is not much.

Just to add my two cents.... I had a friend who had open radical prostatectomy. When he found out about my surgery he passed on his remaining (Assurance) Ultra Thin pads. Pretty comfortable I must say! After reading the posts here about the Serenity pads I decided to try them. After the first five I returned them to Walmart and bought the Assure Ultra Thin pads again. My Findings: the main difference was that the Assure were wider a must with the amount of leakage which occures in one shot. Also the Assure were more absobent allowing a couple of hours longer use per day. The Assure pads are also contoured to go under the scrotum area as are the Serenity pads. And finally the package of 52 were under $10.00. Assure can be found at your local Walmart. Hope this info is of some help to someone out there. Good Morning,

My friends often call me piel del codo ( a Mexican idiom literally meaning "skin of the elbow" that pokes a little fun at the frugal) as I tend to stretch a dollar....

This might be useful to some of you:

I use a store brand men's incontinence pad that is much like what Dr. Martin describes.  (I personally don't feel good giving the  W-art any money.....)

Now that I am just leaking a few small squirts a day in the same spot on a pad, I cut these pads into thirds and use the adhesive strip to hold them into place.

It is much cooler, much like using a small women's serenity incontinence pad, ultra-cheap, and can be cut in larger sizes for more active days (or more public outings).

Serenity's were also my favorites. Toward the end of needing pads, I used up some of the sandpaper-textured generics I had bought and found them to be quite warm. I'm glad I'm done with them in time for summer in Vegas.

I'm using Poise Regular,,, seems I'm the only one, maybe I should switch? Anyway, just for insurance, not much leaking anymore.

I only have found them at the actual Walmart stores not online. They are made by tyco health care

Dawgfan, Kurt loves the Attends. We found them at Justattends.com. They are very lite and not as hot. And, is dawgfan due to UGA? Kurt graduated from there and we have a pug named PUGA. Courtney
