Hi:

I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. I believe I will undergo Robotic Surgery. I was given the name of Dr. Savatta. Does anyone have experience with him? Also, Dr. Su and Dr. Tawari. How does one decide who to use? Is it better to have this surgery done locally or is travel not an issue? Thank you.

Hi Sanford, Welcome to the forum. There is a thread below that may be helpful to you, link is: https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=35&m=877126 I did a lot of research before my husband's surgery and learned that Tewari is one of the best (if not the best) robotics doc in NY. My personal opinion about travel is that it's worth traveling to an excellent doctor. Best of luck to you and keep us posted. A. There a few on the Low Blow site who used Savatta. He posts there himself sometimes. From everything I've read and heard, Savatta would be as good a choice as they come. Would have used the man myself had we not had a selection here alrerady. Good luck.   Paul

Hi Sanford - I am going through same process. I have scheduled appointments with Twari and Guilloneau in NY amd Jarow at Hopkins. Su is very busy - aurgery schedule is out to December I have been told. Also looking at Patel at Ohio State. All great surgeons with lot of Robotic experience. Keep me posted - I will do same.

Hi Sanford

Dr. Tewari at NY-Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell) in New York City is considered one of the top robotic surgeons in the US. I believe that he has performed over 2000 prostate robotic surgeries. He was a pioneer with Dr. Menon in robotic surgery at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Tewari was hired to head up the prostate robotic surgery team at NY Presbyterian when it was established a few years ago. If I had elected robotic surgery, I would have selected him. Get the best robotic surgeon you can find even if you have to travel. Best of luck!

I second Dr Tawari. You can view several of his surgeries on utube. One is a very good 6 part video. He has also done groundbreaking research in nerve sparing procedures and nerve mapping.

Hi sanford, welcome to the group. I do not have info about the docs you listed, but we did travel for my husbands da vinci. Traveling was not as hard as I thought it would be. We flew to texas for surgery, and spent 1 night in hospital, then one in hotel and flew home the next day, a day earlier than we planned. We stayed home a week and flew back for the follow up and stayed just 24 hours. Thanks to all here, we were very prepared and our hotel had a walgreens behind it which made it easy to get meds and foods for the soft diet he was still on. Go to the best, unfortunately, they won't come to you. Good Luck. Courtney
