Yes, I had a similar diagnosis and treatment. At age 52 I was diagnosed, Gleason 3+4, with a PSA of 6.2. I had an RP, and 14 months later my PSA went from 0.1 after the surgery to 0.6. I immediately had radiation, and my PSA dropped to between 0 and 0.2 and my doctor says I'm in remission. I was diagnosed 9/11/01, RP on 1/02 and radiation in 3/03. I've been in remission since then, but still take supplements just in case.

Yup----

My PSA went up to .24 about five months after surgurey---- but I also had a positive margin, which was highly suggestive of residual disease.    .2 was the line in the sand I had agreed upon to do radiation.    I did 36 sessions of IMRT and six months worth of Zoladex.  Last PSA undectable, but that's under HT --- time will tell.

IMHO, your doc is giving you good guidance.

Kinda sort of....my psa 6 weeks after surgery was 0.62 but my doc said he wasn't surprised concerning my post surgery pathology...gleason upped to 9 and positive margin and seminal vesicle involved....had another psa a couple weeks later and had dropped to 0.59...started lupron therapy, due for another psa in late
September and begin radiation treatment just after Labor day....hoping for close to zero on next psa...

Being Lucky I guess. My post surgery (2/16) pathology was 4+3, pT3b (yup on the seminals). PSA was undetectable when I started HT 3 months later. Started IMRT for 38 hits and completed 8/3 with still a <0.1. Next PSA in September.

My 4 week post-op PSA was 0.51 and this week my 3 month (almost) PSA was 0.28. Doc says below .3 and steady is OK. That's the $10 million question. He scheduled the next one for November. Should I talk to an oncologist ion the meantime?

Absolutely confer with a second opinion at any point you can with cancer. You sound like you are doing well but you have to be vigilent.

Hi Mickeypro,

Tony is the voice of experience.

Since you're not where you want to be with the PSA after 3 months (PSA < 0.20), getting another opinion, and perhaps another test, could be in order.

As Tony inferred, you want to stay ahead of the game.

Hey Mickeypro

As you can see by my signature line, many of us are in the same boat.  While I had only a .08 at the 5 month mark, my surgeon and oncologist were discussing the possibility of adjuvant radiation therapy when it was .01 at two months.  I've been on Zoladex for two months now, and am scheduled to start 32 radiation treatments the last week of this month.  I've been keeping physically active and don't feel the fatigue effects of HT.  I don't know what a hot flash would feel like, but at times I do feel pretty warm, but it's Summer.  My doctors, and some studies, indicate that the HT will help weaken any cancer cells that may be in the prostate bed, so the radiation can be more effective.  I have always approached this aggressively, and will continue to do that.  Hang in there....
