I'm checking out pumps online. Any preference between the manual and the battery version?
A question about the forum: if I post a reply to the replies, does that go out to everyone? I posted a question about kegeling and continence. One source said that with too much of that exercise the muscle can become tired and leaking will result. Is there a consensus about how much is enough but not too much to get results?
Also, Cedar referred to Helpful Hints. I was wondering how to find those.

Hi KMC - we can answer a couple of your queries. . . . the Helpful Hints link is the second link (at the very top) of the main prostate cancer forum page. . . . it's entitled . . . "Prostate Cancer Resources, Helpful Hints, and Topic Thread" . . .once in there, there are many helpful links to postings in the forum.

If you are in a posted link and use the "reply" function at the bottom your reply will stay within that same thread and appear directly after the one you are responding to. If you use the "post reply" button you will have more options with regard to your post . . .it too will appear within the same thread. However, if you click on "new topic" you will be starting a whole new thread which will then require a title.

PS - If you are wanting to do a signature at the bottom of your posts, click on control panel and you'll find the signature option in there.

My opinion- the more mechanical something is, the more likely it is to fail, so I would choose manual over battery version for that simple fact.
If you click the Post Reply button, the your reply is placed in the topic thread that you are responding to. If yo don,'t get many answers to a question, then maybe there aren't many people reading at that time who can offer any personal experience to your question. The Helful Hints, some of them at least, can be found in the second from the topic list on the topics page of the Forum. There's loads of stuff listed there, Just click, read and learn...lol

I've read both ways about Kegeling too much. some say it is counter-productiove, some say you can't do too much. Again, its subjective to the person, I think.

Thanks for the advice. I did finally figure out the Helpful Hints link, which is a great resource. Part of the value of this forum is simply to read others' stories. On my own in the daily work world, or with friends, I can have the feeling of apartness, that I'm secretly unlike the person I seem to be. The forum gives the whole experience a cast of normalcy.

Someone recommended the Encore pump. Do you know anything about that, compared to the Vacurect?
By the way, just reading Jeff's capsule history is illuminating. It gives me a sense of the time involved in this recovery process. I'm happy to hear you both are getting closer to where you want to be.

KMC51, no, we haven't heard of that one. We had only heard of the Osborn (recommended by the doctor and fairly expensive) and the Vacurect (recommended by different people here). This recovery process is different for all of us and probably not quick enough for most of us. :) take care and good luck in your research, kat

You'll find a lot of people are selling their expensive pumps.
I have a $500 electric pump I don't even use. After all thats said and done,,,,,,farther down the road, you might learn as I have, that cheap is better. Hopefully your situation is not permanent
I went to the adult bookstore and bought a manual pump called Mighty Man and got a heavy duty silicone sleeve to go on it to replace the flimsy one that came with it.
The pump was $30 and the sleeve was not much.
This works great for me since I'm not a heavy duty pumper.

The key to pumping is to be careful and not over do it. You might want to try something like this before putting out a lot of money for nothing.

Thanks to all. I ended up buying a vacurect pump. It's a bit of extra security in this uncertain new territory, having a company behind the product.
