Radium Treatment

Hey Irishman - I recommend you ask questions similar to what you did for your surgery.  What happens?  What are the side effects?  How long does it take?  Will it cure me?  What are the odds?  Any pain involved? 

Are you doing an IMRT?  I recommend that you accept nothing less.  Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy.  There is also a more advanced Image Guided IMRT, but it may, or may not be available where you live.

Most of us tolerate radiation well.  Some better than others, of course.  If you have questions, I'll be glad to respond.  My radiation was primary, so I have no knowledge about treatment after surgery.

i joined this site when my dad was diagnosed two years ago . i have not posted in a long time but i log on almost every week . my father had a psa of 12 and a half with a gleason 7 . he had the rp operation and when he went back for the results he was told his psa was 8 . his gleason score was 8 aggressive and his cancer was t2c . they said it is in both lobes but nowhere else that they could see . the doctor said their could be small cancer cells that have not shown up yet . he was put on hormone tablets for three months and then hormone injections for the rest of the year . he had 7 weeks of radiation in october this year . monday to friday . he was fine . he had no side effects except for tiredness in the last two weeks and for two weeks after treatment stopped . half way through the treatment they done a blood test . when i asked the doctor what the psa was he said it was not relevant at that time as he was still having treatment . they also told him he would be on hormone treatment for the rest of his days . that worries me as i keep thinking they know something we dont . he gets his results in january . fingers crossed . he was attending st lukes in rathgar and the staff are lovely plus we had a few laughs along the way .good luck with the treatment . we were very stressed in the beginning but now we take it in our stride . my dad is fantastic and never complains about anything . he has a great faith in god and takes it all in his stride .
