Great thread. I have been thinking of wearing one and just hadn't figured out where to get them. I went online to look. The one I found was Light Blue Awareness Bracelets Signifies: Tsunami Support, Prostate Cancer Awareness Support , Scleroderma, Trisomy 18. Each Bracelet reads:
HOPE, LOVE, INSPIRE, PRAY, STRIVE, DISCOVER, ASK, COMFORT, RELAX. Are there different imprints or a standard one?
I just asked my wife about it and she said she'd wear one. She works in a hospital. I'll wear one too.
As far as awkward? I suppose it was once awkward to talk about breast cancer, but no one flinches when they hear a guy say "breast" in public when it's followed by "cancer". It evokes concern for whomever they are speaking about. And people know about mastectomies and breast recontructive surgery and lumpectomies and radiation and chemo...all treatments for breast cancer. But who knows about HT or Proton Therapy or RRP or daVinci or HIFU? And who knows what guys go through who have PCa?
I admit that at 41 when I was diagnosed, I knew NOTHING about PCa. I mean NOTHING. And when I tell my friends about it, they know NOTHING. I didn't even know what PSA stood for or what it was. Call me oblivious. I just didn't bother with pamphlets that had pictures of 60-70 year old guys that talked about urinary issues. I figured I'd get there soon enough, why worry about it now? Now I've got my dose of reality and I'm all in favor of early detection.
So now I'm going to get a bunch of bracelets and give them to friends/family who will wear them.
Thanks for bringing this subject up!
