MUSE for ED

Does anyone have any experience with the MUSE approach to help with ED? I did a search on this forum but didnt find much. I'm 6 months after robotic operation and think I'm a little behind the curve in my ED recovery. Everything else is successful i.e., 6 month PSA still 0.01 and no leakage.

2 weeks ago I met with an associate urolgist in my surgeon's practice who specializes in ED issues. He suggested I try increasing the dose of the pills. I tried all 3 of them...no, not at the same time ! :) Results of doubling the dose wasnt much better i.e., 200mg Viagra, or 40 Cialis or 40 Levitra. He had said at my first office consult with him that the next step was to try MUSE (for those of you unfamiliar, you insert a tiny pill into the penis and it works much the same as the injections) but without the "trauma" of having to stick yourself with a needle.

BTW, this doctor thinks no one treatment (pills, MUSE, injections, pump) is better than the other. I know I've read in this forum there are others who disagree, so I'm concluding that nobody really knows. He said all these ED treatments work on relaxing the muscles that allow blood flow to the penis and cause it to get hard. The goal is to prevent fibrosis, which I believe can occur when the muscle tissue gets too starved for blood and wont work like it should anymore. This all just gives the nerves time to heal to whatever state they will get to. According to a study he quoted, by taking even small daily doses of the pills, after 18 months, 70% of those men achieved erections good enough to have "normal" sex. Those in the control study who didnt take the pills only had a 40% success rate. And after 2 years, what you get is what you get. That's when things like penile implants get looked at.

I just thought I'd share what I've learned. Please dont anybody try messing with your Viagra, etc, doses without talking to your doctor.

I second Pete42's nomination against MUSE.  It is difficult to administer properly to be effective, it is unpleasant to administer at that, and it can cause a burning sensation in the urethra.  Can I say anything good about it?  No.  Sorry.

My vote would be to try something else.

I met with the ED specialist yesterday. He said MUSE has been around before the Viagra drugs but was only effective in about 15% of the cases. When Viagra hit the market with 70-80% efficacy, MUSE lost popularity. The doc said if I decide to use it, to take it in conjunction with Viagra (or Cialis/Levitra), i.e., take a full dose of Viagra, wait 2 hours then use the MUSE. I havent decided whether to try it but will keep you guys posted if I do. Judging from the lack of response to my post, I dont see much interest in it here.

My main interest is to do everything I can now, and not hear 18 months from now that I should have tried something, and now it's too late. This doc thinks that just taking a small dose of the Viagra type drug every day will not only keep the muscle tissue from becoming fiberous, but also promotes healing of the nerves. I'm not sure about the nerve-healing claim. The truth is, he said, nobody knows for sure.
