Well, it's been a long time since I have made any posts.  I have done extensive research on types of surgery and finally found a Dr.  to do Laparscopic surgery.  My health plan does not cover out of state or DaVinci so I guess this is as good as it gets. Dr. Kwoung in Albuquerque NM. (The only one in the state, I am told).  He has done over 250 surgeries so I am pretty confident in his ability.  Anybody out there had this type of surgery that can give some advice on what to expect? 

P.S.-  Thanks to everybody in the forum for all the valuable information they have provided. It has taken much of the fear and anxiety out of my journey.

I have no info about your selection, but congrats on making your choice.  Making that first decision in a line of many relieves a lot of stress and gives you a concrete goal to look toward.   May your journey continue smoothly.

My view is that the surgeon's skill is a lot more important than the method of surgery, and wheather it's open, lap. or robotic.

Whatever method is being used, I would want a top surgeon who has extensive open surgical experience. Because someone has done 250 operations does not in itself  necessarily make him a great surgeon.

Hi Bootheel!!!!!

Did you try Dr. Lackner at Albuquerque Urology (505)242-3991???? He did Rick's surgery and both Rick & I adore that Dr. He is a very busy guy but when you are in front of him he makes you feel like he has all the time in the world for you. He is also the kind of Doc. that gives you his cell phone number so you can reach him at anytime. Rick was out of the hosip. within a couple of days and had no complications. He regained his urinary control about 4 months after surgery. I know his pratice takes most all of the health plans I think the only one they don't take is Lovelace. I wish you the best with your surgery.

Thanks for your reply.  Dr. Lackner is in the same office as Dr. Kuong and assists him on  some of the surgeries so I feel pretty confident about my outcome.  We are on Presbyterian plan which they accept. Unfortunately, we are about 350 miles away and will have to make accomodations.I am anxious as my surgery date approaches (January 29) but I'm sure thats normal.  Thanks for your support.  I will keep you posted after the surgery.
