Hi FairRider: I just had surgery two days ago (April 4th) for bilateral inguinal hernias -- one on each side.
Just about every male on my mother's side had hernias, except me. I guess I had the weaknesses there though and the DaVinci surgery I had may have opened the gaps enough to let 'em rip big time.
Sorry I don't have any links to share at the moment, but do some googling on prostate, DaVinci, hernias and you'll find some recent studies suggesting that there is a relationship between prostatectomy (open and DaVinci) and subsequent hernias.
BTW -- my hernia surgery, in some ways, has been more aggravating than the prostatectomy, believe it or not. I'm 48 hours out and still having trouble getting out of bed in the morning, getting in and out of chairs etc. BUT -- 48 hours is not a long time.
Oh well. The way I look at it -- at least it's not cancer surgery this time around.
Get your husband evaluated. Hernias need to be taken care of. They cannot heal themseolves.
Best to ya,
Tom
