Whole body bone scan Vs. CT scan Question

Hi Everyone, Hope you are all okay.

We went to the Dr. today to go over the whole body bone scan that was done on Rick last week They had injected him 4 hours prior to doing the scan with something to make him light up. The Dr. today said he was not satisified with the results and has ordered a Ct scan for this Friday. He showed us on the bone scan where his sholders, arms, knees, hips, pelvis area, and big toe seem to be what they call light up and the radiologist thinks it is arthritus. The Dr. seems to think it might be something more????? so he ordered the CT. Scan. My question is what and how much is the difference between a whole body bone scan and a CT scan?

Hi Diana,
These are two totally different tests. The isotope that takes up in the bones will illuminate in the bone scan. CT shows the uptake in the soft tissues. He is just verifying that the uptake in the bone IS arthritis. I believe what the doctor saw was enough uptake in the bones to be unsatisfied with the results. The PSA numbers do not suggest he has such wide spread PC. I just believe he was unable to use the bonescan to any real value. Could it be something more? Yes. But the CT should show some activity as well. I still believe that he has local recurrance. The 0.3 suggest slight spread, and that is usually in the prostate bed. Have you ever had anybody tell you to stay positive? :-)

Thank you for your quick response. In answer to your question I think I remember a really good friend on a web site called Healing Well has reminded me to think positive, by the way that really good friend lives in Las Vegas. I am still thinking positive, just a little concerned but I know that God will only give me what I can handle to deal with and he does watch over me very carefully.
