My husband had vague symptoms of ED and urinary frequency, some fatigue in months prior to diagnosis - also has family history of PCa (dad, uncle and cousin). Unfortunately symptoms ignored by family practice doctor - had "physical" with blood work and colonoscopy a year before diagnosis but no PSA performed we know now - finally did PSA at age 53 which came back at 174! My stepson will begin testing by at least age 35.

this is still so amazing how many men had little to no symptoms. Even the men with high psa and high gleasons. we have to keep spreading the word for early testing.

Greetings, everyone.  I had no physical symptoms - had my annual physical and PSA had gone from 1.5 to 3.2 and doc asked about family history and my father, his twin and their older brother all had prostate cancer.  Did the biopsies and found out I had cancer.

By the way, my doc said that because of our family history my son needs a PSA test at 35.  If that test is ok, then he can wait til 40 for the next one but he needs one every year after 40.

My son is 18 and I stressed to him the importance of getting tested around the 35 age range. I am hoping in a few years that will be standard protocol for young men when they have a physical. We have to keep the torch burning.

My husband (at 49 at the time) had no symptoms at all either. It was a routine men's annual checkup, and a comprehensive doctor (who was aware of age-related PSA levels). No family history, so we are very glad in retrospect, as if my husband had waited until 50 for testing, it would be all recent for us now, and perhaps more advanced. We had a good outcome all around with early diagnosis for which we feel blessed. My husband's 31 year old son has already had a PSA as a baseline for future (it is fine); and we will certainly educate our young 8 year son to do likewise in future too. After the diagnosis we found an old PSA test had been done many years earlier with different doctor, but we were not aware of it. We will make sure our sons are better educated that's for sure!

You know Bob didn't think he had symptoms . . . had regular PSA tests (his father beat prostate cancer in his late 70's with radiation) . . . Bob's PSA sat steady at 2 . . . . then one day he just felt "different" . . .said things weren't the same "down there" . . . . doctor checked the PSA which had risen to 5.3 . . . a course of antibiotics lowered it to 3.9, but at his age of 59 just wanted to check it out and ordered a biopsy and of course it turned out positive.

In hindsight, I'm sure that a couple of years earlier when the urine stream became different and much weaker, that in itself may have been a FIRST symptom that really went ignored. Education and testing is so important.

no symptoms at all found during a routine physical

I had no symptoms prior to being diagnosed. I had a bladder infection that got my attention, my MD treated it but told me to follow up with a urologist because it was uncommon for a man to have a bladder infection. The urologist did a routine exam and a PSA, which came back at 9.9. From this the biopsy and subsequent events followed.
