30 years of shagging taillights and wrestling drunks as a Missouri Highway Patrolman....retired ten year ago this July at age 52.....got out while I was still alive!!!

Hi jwb 187. How many of your fellow officers with the Highway Patrol have had prostate cancer. I know a lot of guys with my state agency have come down with this disease. Makes me think there is a connection somewhere.

My husband has been a over-the-road trucker for 41 years. He is looking forward to retiring this month.

Hi Mika,

Along with the hemorhoids I would say that prostate problems were very prevalent with alot of the troopers I worked with. I know of a few that have developed prostate cancer, there are probably more but I just don't know about it. JWB

From what my Urologist told me anyone with a job that requires a lot of driving is subject to prostrate problems. As a salesman I would be driving an average of 4/8 hours a day. I know truckers and others do more than that. As it was explained to me its not a healthy thing to stay in a driving position for extended periods of time as it cuts off circulation to the pelvic and prostrate area. Sure enough when I got off the road my prostrate problems were reduced. Now to continue that on and say it causes cancer??, I don't know maybe some others are more versed on that..

Thank you Ken. We did this before but not to the same success. I also forgot to mention, my profession is in Telcom, but my passion is in music. Guitarist for 30+ years. Bass, Guitar, Mandolin, Dobro. Bluegrass, Country, rock, cool stuff. Not much of a recording career. Too busy with Telcom. But I bet I can knock your socks off...

I am very impressed with this thread because I know more about all of you. We are brothers in life and in disease. I respect all who have made great careers here. You all, I am proud to know. Such great stories that are worth knowing more about.

So, now for the women....what butters everyone's bread :>)

I am a Paramedic by trade, working little on the road these days in exchange for educating EMS professionals at a private ambulance company/community college. My specialty is in Pediatrics / Trauma. Yes..we do specialize :>)

In addition, Paul and I both go all over the country for a large medical equip. company, educating corporate Community Emergency Response Teams. 911 brought about a huge surge in this particular area. Next week I'll be in Alaska for a day or two. I'll get to see my big brother (lives there) for dinner. Perks are nice!

Swim I could have used you this week! I just took my child and infant CPR certification class on Thursday. I figured you were in the medical field. You have a very honest and direct style in your posts that I appreciate. You are similar to my husband. (He is a family practice dr and does a lot of ER work in smaller local hospitals) Both of you are very sweet people!


I have been in the pharmaceutical industry (no boo hissing please) for the past six years and decided not to return after having my son this past fall. I'm doing recruiting from home part time and being a mom full time. :-) This past year has brought about a lot of change for me and my family.
