Hi I,m now 4 months post op and I still need to visit the toilet once during the night, same as before the rp, also I still experience urgency at certain times. I would have expected to have made it thro the night by this stage, does anybody have this problem.

I go at least once during the night, sometimes twice.....6+ months post-op.

I am 8 months post op, and go at least 2 times per 8 hr night. Usually around 2 hours after going to bed then again about 3 hrs later. I stop liquids at 6pm and got to be at midnight, most nights. This is nothing new for me, as went every hour or two most of my adult life. Near the end of my havng a prostate, I had severe prostate enlargement (110 gm. wt.) and was having much difficulty with retention,urgency and ability to have a good stream...Thankfully, all that has gone, with the removal, except I still have to get up a couple times or more a night. A really good tradeoff in my opinion.

...coming up to 3 months post-brachy, and once, maybe twice a night, depending on coffee/alcohol intake.

I'm about 18 month post op and need to visit the little boys room at least once per night, usually around 2 or 3 am.

I am 25 days out from my da Vinci surgery and have experienced wakeups and getups for the bathroom 3 or 4 times per night...wear guards pads day and night and usually have to change before going back to bed.....but, last night I, perhaps, reached a milestone..I was able to sleep the entire night from midnight to 0730 this morning without one instance of urgency to go.  I certainly hope this is the start of something good.  I am, however, flowing as usual this morning.  I am able to stay relatively dry while sitting but flows rapidly upon standing...I have been able to clamp down and make it to the bathroom more times than not so I think I am making progress.  Also, I might say that last evening I attended a family party, you know, big steak dinner and all the other accompaniments and I wore an apparatus that I got from Argus Medical and stayed dry all evening as the urine was collected in a bag attached to a cup receptacle.  I really felt normal...and believe me, it felt great.  I plan to use the apparatus each time I go out of the house as well as short times in the house.  the apparatus consists of a set of tight boxer briefs with a pocket in front to hold the cup receptacle and a little 600 cc bag that hangs from the bottom of the receptacle to collet the urine.  I went to the bathroom once during the entire evening and drained the bag...I drank a lot of liquid and enjoyed the freedom and the ambience immensely.

Anyone who wishes to know more about the apparatus I would be happy to furnish the info.

One of the good things about the catheter was not having to get up in the middle of the night to make my bladder gladder.  I am 2 years post-op and the urinary issues are resolved. 

I still wake up occasionally with a need to urinate, but my urologist said that is probably more a result of liquid intake before bed than any lingering incontinence or other urinary problems.  If I limit liquids a few hours before bedtime, I'm usually good to sleep thru the night.

I've been "dry" since cath removal, but my bladder capacity is only about 2/3 what it was before surgery.  I have to get up at least once at night.  If I drink a few beers before bedtime, I may have to get up 3 times.

Ocassionally, I will need to go about 1 or 2 AM, but if I judicious with fluid intake, nothing but water no later than 5 or 6 PM, I usually don't have to go, which is new for me following surgery.

Eddie,

Your bladder capacity is exactly the same as before... It's the darn valve at the end which does not want to hold the darn back. More keigles and longer walks.

Like most everyone else I REALLY watch what I drink after 6pm, and don't have issues. Yipee a complication I dont.

Prior to surgery it was twice a night.

Greetings, everyone.  This is one area that is not much different post surgery than pre surgery.  I usually get up 2 times a night.  I don't have any continence issues but I was hopeful to be able to sleep through the night after my surgery. It just hasn't happened. David

I'm five weeks post surgery and I find I wake up about 3-4 times every night. I'm pretty certain it's not the urge to go to the bathroom but I figure as I'm awake I'll  go and empty the bladder. Most of the time nothing much comes out.

I am once or twice a night, but figure it's the amount of fluid I drink -- lots! 

Once recently I was away overnight, slept through the night, and slept in the next morning (about 10 hours) all without needing a toilet visit. That day I had drunk only the amount of fluid normal people drink.

Still I think I'll try the suggestion of last drink by 6pm -- it would be nice to last through the night.
