  First, 

  I would like to thank everyone who responded to my "whats next" topic.  Everything has been helpful.  The information is greatly appreciated.  I found out this morning that my biopsy was positve.  3 of 12 sticks showed cancer.  This is all the information I will have until Monday.  The Doctor is out this week.  His nurse said that they would be in contact with me on Monday for the steps to be taken next.  She mentioned that possibly there would be a CT scan.  I will list my info here and then get it set-up properly like everyone else's information.  1st psa test April 08 was 3.06.  Second test on 6/18/08 was 4.02 (after a dre).  Biopsy taken on 7/10/08  with 3 of 12 showing cancer.  Prostate size 18cm.

First, sorry you have to return here.  Second, I'm glad you are finding this early and have an excellant chance of full recovery.  Yours is a good case of early-stage PCa and appears to be treatable from several differnt approaches.

Sorry to welcome you to the young guys club. I was 44 also. Your next step is likely a bone scan. But for us, get that pathology report and pot the particulars in your signature line. I have my first recomendation. You have some decisions to make. Have the slide analyzed again, this time by a large cancer center. A second opinion goes a long way.

Thanks for the feedback. I live in NE Indiana, does anyone have info on NE Indiana doctors? I am sure I have to be in-network with my insurance. I had hurnia surgery in January. At least a large chunck of my out-of-pocket expenses have been covered.

I agree with Tony please for your piece of mind get a second opinion. It is not likely to change things, but you never know. I am sure there are many wonderful hospitals in your area. I know the hospital I go to is close, it is The Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion IL and it is wonderful, or I think so anyway. Cancer is all they treat, and the have the best technology I have ever seen. Do your research though and anything we can do to help please ask. Sorry to hear the news, but I'm glad you have found HealingWell. HW has been an incredible source of support for my family on his PC journey. As James C mentions, it sounds like have caught your PC early, which means cure is possible! Take the time to get the second opinions and do your research. Keep us posted and ask away!

 i was 43 when dxed your gonna be fine brother we are all here for you, your young and have some time to do your homework on your treatment so just take a deep breath and relax . let me tell you one thing to be a fact ,as im sure most of the young guys and for that matter most all guys on here, IT ISNT AS BAD AS YOUR MIND MAKES IT OUT TO BE. i know you havea full plate , but dont let your mind run away with neg thoughts. im a worry wart , type a personality  always movin and i tend to overanalyze, all said and done  it wasnt the worst thing ive ever experienced. stay here and ask all the questions you can  ,there is no such thing as a stupid question,ask this is where you need to be . post as much as you are comfortable good luck my brother we are all in this together and i mean all of us..........................dirt

p.s. get you wife involved if your comfortable with that she is goin thru this with you if she needs a womans point of veiw my wife and many other wonderful women on here can help. we will be right here when you need us..................promise

Hello young man and welcome. I'm sorry about your biopsy result, surely not what you hoped for BUT as you've already experienced, there are many caring, helpful people on this site. Dirtmover (among others) gave you some advice and a promise - both are good.

Like others have said, take a deep breath and take your time gathering information and making a decision. Find a doctor that you feel really good about and trust your gut feelings. you will be fine.....kat

I will chime in with the chorus...they caught it early, and as my doctor said, if you're going to get cancer, this is the one to get. Best of luck.

    Hey Joliver....I may be just down the road from you, I'm around the Marion area...Ripandburn will be along soon I'm guessin'.....I go in for my surgery in just over a week. What I can tell and have read we have some pretty good and experienced fellows down in the Indy area. I"m comfortable with my guy....be able to tell you more in a couple weeks.  I"m headed out the door to Tennesee for a long weekend.....I've listened to many of these guys and learned quite a bit....the two "L's"...."Lurking and Learnin"......this site and these people have kept me grounded and focused.....welcome my friend, this site breeds strength and knowledge.....and everyone has something important they bring to the table....

Hey Joliver...newly diagnosed as well.  It took a couple of days to get comfortable with it in my head.  Wife is doing better just not at the same level yet as myself.  Keep posting with your treatment plans as I am interested being I haven't made any one selection just yet.  You are in the very early stages so you have plenty of time to decide.  Best of luck and lets us know more specific the details after Monday.

I have another question that I have not seen or heard of yet about prostate cancer. We always hear about cancer spreading from somewhere else in the body. With prostate cancer we hear about it spreading from the prostate to other areas. What is the likelyhood/possiblility of the cancer coming from another area to the prostate? Is this even possible?

I've never heard of cancer in the prostate being anything other than prostate cancer.  Keep us informed about how thing are progressing.  There are alot of good people of this forum that can help.

Here is where I am. I will add my info to my bio. My Gleason was 3 + 3 =6, the biopsys were 20%, 15%, 10%(3 sticks positive) I am to have a CT scan on Thursday Morning. I then have an appt with a Dr on Friday. Dr Weise in FT Wayne, In
I appreciate all the feedback I have received. Right now I am trying to get all the info I can. This place seems to be a good place. I know I have not been able to provide helpful/encouragement to others. Sometime soon I hope to be able to pay this forward. Ya can't pay back. WWH.
Anyway I certainly appreciate this forum.

I have been reading a ton but haven't done many posts - this site has really helped me a ton and I am sure that it will help you too - we are one day out of surgery and home - yea!!!  thought you might be interested in knowing that we (mostly I) did a ton of research and finally decided on Dr. Arieh Shalhav out of the University of Chicago (which should not be too far from you) as my husband's surgeon and we were very happy with our decision.  He is one of the top Davinci Urology surgeons in the country and U of C is a top hospital.  Please feel free to let us kow if you have any questions and good luck with your decisions!
