1st Post: Single best book recommended for 1) prostrate cancer 2) humor for newly diagnosed father

My 76 yr old father just was diagnosed. his biopsy said 9 out of 12 had cancer some of it advanced.
he is now stopping his other medications for 3 days so he can have a bone scan and a MRI. That is all we know.
we are brand new at this.


I am 5 hours away. I want to be there for him in a balanced way.

1) What is the one best prostrate book I can send him?
2) What is the single best cancer joke or wry or funny humor book that I can send him as he has a good sense of humor

All constructive suggestions, tips, advice, wisdom, most welcome...

yes, I saw that but it was so much information I was hoping for a single book recommedation from those who have been there.

1) single prostate book recommendation

now that is more like it...thank you.. what do you think about that one prostrate book everyone raves about
but was written back in 2001? Is it still worth it too?

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but learning to spell prostate would add to your knowledge base, and having had "prostate" cancer, surgery, depression, and loss of spontaneous sexual function to this point, I find nothing humorous or funny about this disease. Sorry to hear about your father, the best thing you can do for him is to educate yourself and provide him ways to educate himself about the disease, possible treatments, and long term side effects/survival of each. Good Luck, this a great site for acquiring knowledge from people who have been down the road your father is about to travel. Best of luck to both of you.

If you are talking about the book by Patrick Walsh then no. I consider it out of date. But most of the information applies today. If your dad is on Hormone Therapy then the best I have seen yet is: "Beating Prostate Cancer: Hormonal Therapy and Diet".

I am not as big a proponant on the diet part as I once was, but there are several case studies of guys with Stage IV cancer and how the have done well. Tell me more about his condition, I may be able to conjure something.
