Hi Pamela,
My dad had a TURP a few years ago and he bounced back, but it is a rough procedure and takes a few months to bounce back fully. He is likely to be quite sore down below (so lots of loose clothing needed post op), and he will be worried about the "water-works" - probably using the toilet frequently, so need to drink plenty of water to keep the urine clear. He may some pink urine as blood clots etc from the surgery clear out, so gentle walking regularly and as soon as he can to keep up the circulation.
I was paranoid about my husband's "waterworks" too following surgery for prostate cancer as a result of having seen dad have a TURP, and so as soon as hubby was discharged, I gave him 3 small glasses of cranberry juice each day for about the first 6 weeks post op. This keeps the urine free of infection, is a natural product (however he hated the unsweetened version, and went to the full sugar version!!) and it worked (very) well for us. Your hubby may or may not come home with a catheter - if he does he needs to walk and drink plenty of water - avoiding alcohol and lots of caffeine - it is a temporary thing. I did not give my hubby the cranberry until he was home about 7 days after surgery
I suggest you read as much as you can about recovery from TURP - the good thing is that TURP is NOT usually performed for a diagnosis of cancer if they are aware prior to the op, so the chances are good that your hubby will, with some support and care, bounce back well like my dad did. It is quite a common operation for men to have from middle age on-wards.
There are some complications that can occur - I would suggest you read up as most of the men posting here have had other types of prostate surgery, and there may be other forums where this particular discussion of surgery for prostate enlargement can assist you more.
I do not know a great deal about it, but I hope this helps and good luck.
