Blood in urine at 5 1/2 weeks?

ok, hubby has had several orgasms, with and without my help, seems like, the next day, or same day if its in the morning, he has some blood in his urine.  He called me today from work, i asked hows everything, he said fine except he just got back from the restroom after peeing a bunch of blood!  typical of him to say it like that. I asked if anything out of the ordinary happen in the bathroom this morning?(before i had to leave, he wasnt me to see the nice firm erection he was sporting under the covers. I said, Nice honey, no time, enjoy yourself after i am gone. So apparently after the routine pumping, thats exactly what he did. He said it was a good one too. The bleeding isnt until halfway tru the day, sevdeeral normal pees then by late afternoon, blood. I asked him if maybe he thought orgasms were contributing to this, since it seems to happen EVERY time after. he said possibly. Duh. Doc says just for him to put his feet up and relax. anyone else have this at this stage? He also said he passed the biggest clot he has yet this evening, about an inch by inch n half. what gives?

Blood in urine is still normal even at 5.5 weeks after surgery.  It is still considered normal up to 8 weeks after surgery.

An orgasm simply doesn't put all that mush stress on your plumbing. The no sex caution is more due to the physical exertion of sex and less than erections and orgasm. Most guys (whether or not they ever tell their wives) JO soon after the catheter comes out just to see if it still works or feels good.

Since it happens later in the day, it sounds to me as if he is still overdoing it a bit and there are some bleeding capillaries somewhere. Everyone heals at a different pace and it may be that your husband is just too active and perhaps got back into life a bit soon.

Either way, if your doctor says don't worry about, don't worry about it. We tend to panic at the sight of blood coming out of our bodies, and rightfully so. But in this case, listen to the doc, put his feet up and rest. 

I have to admit, like all men, I did the same thing. Now that it is all over, I have to ask myself, why is it that I DON'T listen to the doc when he says not to worry about blood, and I DON'T listen to him when he says to rest and heal.  Hmmmm...  a male trait to not listen?

Food for thought -> lay off sex/orgasm for MANY weeks and let him heal up.

First, I hope you realize how lucky you and hubby are to be dry after only 5 weeks and apparently getting at least some unaided erections. Most men are in considerably worse shape.

It sounds to me like hubby is overdoing it. If you think about the surgery, the urethra and bladder neck are literally stretched and stitched in place. It really shouldn't be a surprise that there is still some blood.

It seems to me that daily use of "therapy" and the pump is overdoing it a bit.If he has problems with Viagra, cut the dose. I take only 1/4 of a 100mg pill and that's enough and without side effects.

Suggest he slow down a bit and see if blood disappears.

thank you all. We havent done daily therapy, but often enough. at 10 days post op when he had his first erection, the doc said "thats" great but i think he was only saying what my husband wanted to hear. Yes, we are fortunate that things are starting to function normally. He switched just day before yesterday from cialis to Viagra. he said his recent erection was solid. so far no side effects but he had taken his first viagra night before he JO ed . He is not the type to keep that info from me. I believe he is over doing it and i told him he his on his own now with his "therapy" and i am not helping. I will help him get an erection but thats it, he can finish on his own because i dont want to be esponsible for the bleeding. he talked to the doc last night, he said have a couple glasses of white wine(i think hubby made that part up) lots of water, and rest. Its normal.

I am sure it is freaky to have blood come out of your penus while peeing, no matter how many times he is told its normal. He has a desk job but is president of a huge company and very active mentally and has long hours. He also played 4-5 holes of golf over the weekend. he doesnt really listen to anyone as far as not over doing it, tho the doc says do what you want, if it hurts, stop. well, the bleeding doesnt hurt so that is why he continues to do what he does, then gets a little worried about the bleeding. He feels fine tho and we are both releived that his outcome turned out so well so far. Thanks for the support.

Remember that the primary source of bleeding is the reconstruction of the neck of the bladder. It is not from where the urethra is cut and joined. There is a large hole in the bladder when the prostate is removed. It is stitched up into a tube shape with a small hole so that the urethra can be connected to it. The new neck of the bladder is pulled down into where the prostate was. Please take a look at Patrick Walsh's book on prostate cancer to see a full drawing of what they do. This surgery is far more than cutting a tube and rejoining it. It is the reconstruction of the bladder that continues to bleed. The stitches around the urethra are water tight and do not bleed.
