What symptoms do people have of PCa

You responded to an earlier thread of mine.

I've had very bad pain in the perineum (between scrotum and rectum) that would bring me to my knees. This lead to Dx of prostatitis and about 8 months of Septra/Bactrim DS for prostatitis and led to my present Dx for PCa after biopsy. I'm having the same pain still since biopsy, maybe more often. Had urinalysis done last week after biopsy (couple weeks after) and Uro said no infection or prostatitis (no DRE since biopsy).

So, maybe pain all along due to cancer, don't know...whether enlarged prostate or other.

I see Uro tomorrow for bone scan results and am going to ask maybe internal rhoids, rectal obstruction, the cancer...I have a list.

I'll let you know. Pretty anxious right now. But, have read a lot since (thanks to) finding this site.

Mikey. First, best of luck on your bone scan results. Please let us know how it goes. I'm optimistic for you since your PSA isn't that high.

Second, my feeling on prostatitis is that it can't be well diagnosed by just a urinalysis. I think, to be more accurate, cultures need to be attempted. Further, I think you can have inflamation without evidence of current bacterial infection. To me the area of prostatitis is poorly researched and poorly defined with poor diagnostics. My experience with uros in this area is that they will give you some antibiotics and rapidly loose interest so you just have to deal with it yourself alot. (It's not usually a surgical issue). It is not pleasant sometimes. Diet, antiinflamitories (NSAIDs), sitz baths, time and sometimes the appropriate antibiotics are considerations. For me previously I had mostly urinary frequency/burning/irritiation symptoms. For me the rear end pain is new, but other people with prostatitis have this symptom also. The usual disclaimer -I am not a physician, just an average schmo.
