Post Prosthesis Dissappointment

I had the high-dollar 3-part penile prosthesis installed 6 weeks ago and began testing it while on vacation about a week ago. To say that I am disappointed, is an understatement. When I got a look at my new equipment, I darn near lost it...absolutely broke down. This was the one (last) thing that I was depending on to restore some semblance of a once normal life and marriage.

My once formidable dick is now 4" long and 4.75" in circumference. It may as well be my thumb. I made it very clear to the doctor on several occasions that I was originally 7" in length and 6.75 " in circumference. What I have now seems like a cruel joke - I am at best, only 1/3 of what I used to be. When fully erect at 4 inches, I can pinch up a significant amount of loose skin on the shaft indicating that there is still plenty of room for expansion but the cylinders seem incapable of expanding to any significant degree....only lengthening.

I had prostatic cryosurgery two years ago followed by one year of Lupron (Eligard) and I expected to lose some length perhaps up to 2 inches but not 3" and most certainly, not 2" of circumference.

I would sincerely appreciate any comments on this disaster. Am I getting upset over nothing? Will this device eventually work it's way back to normal size or am I permanently screwed? This surgery cost $48K and I cannot afford a correction to replace the smaller diameter cylinders with ones that will bring me up to my original size.

Any comments, suggestions or pointers will be sincerely appreciated. Thank you for your kind assistance in this matter.

Sorry to hear about the problems. I know the issues that the implant can cause. There can be a variety of reasons for the problems. And I have learned the hard way that the most highly rated and expensive doc are not necessarily the best. You can see that in my signature. You may gain some length over time, depending on the model implanted. The one problem with some patients is scarring that results in length loss, but usually that is on a reimplantation procedure, not initial implant. Sizing is critical in the implant, so it is important to find out what size & type of implant cylinders were used. If it is an AMX model, you could have three different types. Once you know that, you can go forward. I have lots of experience in this—so we can talk further.

Hey Gene—You’re right - I meant AMS. From my experience they will not own up to a redo. Gene is also right on the models available. Sizing is most important. One consideration is your body architecture. For instance, they may place the implant cylinders further back from the head if the tissues are not dense. Erosion can occur to those who have this condition. In my case I have weakened tunica, which allows the cylinders to bulge outward. I have had two surgeries to try and correct this. To many patients, this is never a problem. If Texas is like me, there is no insurance coverage available– even when you are covered under a conventional medical policy, most exclude this condition. (In Indiana, all private policies exclude anything related to ed.) , so I assume this was an out of pocket expense. In Texas, the partner of the late F. Brantly Scott is still practicing. Irving Fishman in Houston. Texas will need to find out the model type and that will give him a place to start.
