Went in for my first post-op exam yesterday. My cystogram looked good so the catheter was removed. I had no problems in starting and stopping urine flow, the first time or since. My surgeon came in with the post surgery pathology report. He stated it was very good and gave me a copy. My wife and I are overjoyed!
Weight of Prostate - 42 grams
Right pelvic lymph nodes - negative
Left pelvic lymph nodes - negative
Prostate involved by tumor < 10% (greater than)
Extraprostatic extension - Absent
Seminal vesicle invasion - Absent
Margins - Uninvolved by invasive carcinoma
Venous invasion - Absent
Lymphatic invasion - Absent
Perineural invasion - Present
The perineural invasion bothered us at first but the surgeon explained that, cancer cells were found in the spaces around the nerves near the edge of the prostate, but they did not escape outside of the prostate and did not invade the nerve tissue. Now on to the first PSA scheduled for 2-17-09. Thanks to a highly skilled surgeon I am free to drive again...if I wear a diaper!
WOW! IT'S A GREAT DAY!!!
